I love multi-purpose wedding stuff. One of our orange coral centerpieces sits on my bookshelf as decor, and every time I look at it I get the warm and fuzzies thinking about our wonderful day. I also wear my wedding flip flops all the time with the same results. So when I saw OBT member Kim's (aka. "uloveit") wedding cake topper choice, thought it was a great idea! Kim found a pair of adorable salt and pepper shakers to adorn the top of her cake…

Kim's cake topper:
Rocking Elderly Couple According to her wedding planning update, she's going to accent this cake topper with the Mary-Chapin Carpenter lyrics, "Grow old along with me" on the cake. Romantic overload.

Kim inspired me to look into some other salt and pepper cake toppers (because how nice would it be to have a functional cake topper that you could use all the time?), and found an incredible array of choices. So I'm gonna share with you my favsies…

Finding ready-made, mass-produced "offbeat" cake toppers is an almost impossible task. Our wonderful tattooed and pierced, pink haired and mohawked, offbeat couples of various colors, shapes & sizes have a really hard time finding mini-versions of themselves to stand-atop their funky cakes. But OBT member Amanda, aka "Gia De Los Muertos" has come up with a really great solution. Why not Offbeat Bride-ify those easy-to-find traditional cake toppers?

OBT member Jessica made these deer cake toppers that are so adorable they make me want to puke, in a good way.

Jessica writes, "The one with the excess flowers is "me" and the one with the top hat is my darling FW, in case it wasn't obvious. ;) It even turned out that her's is a teensy taller than mine, just like real life. hehe."

As part of "Elephun Elephant Day" I bring you OBT member Erika's awesome elephant cake toppers!

Emily wrote in her wedding planning update:

My best friend Ebay led me to some sweet salt and pepper shakers, which I will use as my cake topper. I'm a collector of elephants and these are up my alley…

Hint of Kitschy… Sweet and cheesy. Love it.

What made our wedding offbeat: We were married under the redwoods by my uncle, our first dance was to Mystery Science Theater 3000's "When Loving Lovers Love" (such a pitch-perfect parody song that several people didn't realize it was a joke), and the only white items anyone saw were the groom's tie and the cake frosting.
