What made our wedding offbeat: We decided that good food, photography and celebrating with our loved ones were more important that any tradition. So we had a big party that at which we just happened to get married.

There was no aisle, no ceremony seating, friends rang a gong to signal that Things Were Happening for five minutes, then it was back to the par-tay.

Location & date of wedding: Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Des Moines, Iowa — May 17th, 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: Nick and I met at his first gig in his new band that he was playing in, with my brother. We both love live music and have been to quite a few concerts together. He proposed to me at a concert front row and center! So I had to pull that in to our wedding.

Location & date of wedding: The Uptown Theater in Kansas City, MO — July 11th, 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: Instead of having a unity candle, we had a Native American water ritual, which consisted of both my groom and I drinking from a double-spouted jug made of clay. Although this took away from our overall theme, both of our families have strong Indian heritage, which we felt the need to embrace during our uniting as one.

Ok, so the title is a bit of a misnomer: Tobi & Dick actually just did the pre-wedding portraits in a cemetery, and had the wedding itself elsewhere.
