Wiccan handfasting ceremony script with crystals and a smoke cleanse

Posted by

When Carson and Isaac shared their barefoot Wiccan micro-wedding with us, we were so touched by their Wiccan handfasting ceremony script that we knew it needed it's own post! Written and performed by Carson's close friend, we appreciate how this script seamlessly ties in all the natural elements and leaves room for personal stories from the officiant. If you're planning a Wiccan handfasting ceremony, this script is a beautiful jumping off point!

The officiant does a smoke cleanse of the space before guests arrived.
There is a small altar with a cloth, anointing oil (lavender, lemon, and rose quartz), and a handfasting cord.

Officiant: Thank you all for joining us here today. I would like to welcome [Partner] and [Partner], who have come here today to join hands and celebrate their love of one another in the company of us all.

[Officiant recounts how they know the married folks and what officiating their wedding means to them personally.]

It is at this time that I would like to prepare the couple with an anointing oil.

[Anoints both partners with oil on their forehead.]

With this oil, I do anoint thee, that the God and Goddess may smile upon you and your union.

Isaac and Carson, you have come here together today to fulfil your wish to be handfasted to one another, is this true?

[They say yes.]

Then it is my honor to bind your hands in token of the bond you have made, and will continue to make with each other. May I have the cord?

[Wraps their hands with a cord and recites the following blessing.]

Just as the rings are symbols, likewise, this cord is a symbol of the lives you have chosen to lead together.
It has been woven to symbolize the intertwining of your lives.

Up until this moment you have been separated in thought, word, and action.

As this cord binds your hands together, so your lives become intertwined,
And as your hands are bound together
So are your lives and spirits, joined in a union of love and trust.

Above you are the stars and below you is the earth.
Like the stars, your love should be a constant source of light
And like the earth, a firm foundation from which to grow.

May the sun bring you new energy by day.
May the Moon softly restore you by night.
May the rain wash away your worries.
May the wind blow new strength into your being.
May you walk gently on the earth and know her beauty all the days of your life,
And may your days together be good and long on this earth.”

I would now ask that you both repeat after me these promises of love to one another
You are the star of each night,
You are the brightness of every morning,
You are the story of each gust,
You are the report of every land.
No evil shall befall you,
on hill nor bank,
In field or valley,
on mountain or in glen.
Neither above, nor below,
neither in sea, Nor on shore,
in skies above, Nor in the depths.
You are the kernel of my heart,
You are the face of my sun,
You are the harp of my music,
You are the crown of my company.

Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead.
Walk beside me and just be my friend.
For now and for eternity.

[Unbinds hands by partners pulling the cord and tying the knot.]

While this cord symbolizes the intertwining of your souls, a wedding ring symbolizes the physical commitment of your lives together in this lifetime. May we have the rings?

[Partners take rings.]

You hold in your hands two beautiful rings, symbolic of your binding contract to one another. Their circular shape represents neverending unity.

[Partner], would you please place the ring on [Partner]'s finger and repeat after me…

“I offer you this ring— as a symbol — of our unbreakable bond.”

[Partner], would you please place the ring on [Partner]'s finger and repeat after me…

“I offer you this ring— as a symbol — of our unbreakable bond.”

Let all present here bear witness that this couple has declared their commitment and love to one another.

By the power vested in me, it is my honor to declare you Man and Wife, joined together. Equal and supporting of one another.

May the God and Goddess bring their blessings upon Mr. and Mrs. [Last Name].

Blessed Be. [Partner], you may kiss your bride.
