Helena Teixeira mom and dad 1979 2 alternative wedding ideas from Offbeat Wed (formerly Offbeat Bride)
There is something about a man in uniform and a sword that makes him dashing. Helena's parents' wedding was in 1979 in classic style. The long sleeves, the baby's breath, tons of lace, and the flower in her hair are so delicate and lovely.

Here is what Helena had to say about her submission:

These are four pictures from my parents' wedding. They got married in 1979. None of their families had a lot of money, so my mother's dress was borrowed and my dad got married in his Navy uniform, the only suit he owned. I know it made them kind of sad at the time, but I always tell them, “Are you freaking kidding me?! The wedding dress is so beautiful it could be worn even nowadays and not look outdated.

And my dad looks like an officer and a gentleman with the sword by his side, the gloves, and the hat. They got married in my mom's small village, where the first and second pictures were taken. In one of them, you can see our car (a Fiat 127, the EL-88-79) in which they drove off to their honeymoon. We had that car until I was twelve. I chose the close-up photo so you can see the top of the dress without the lace coat which served as a train. The bouquet was made with flowers from my great-grandfather's garden. The buttons on the sleeves and the lace are so beautiful!

A soldier and his bride. It's like a scene from a movie.

And the close-up of the dress and flower. Oh, those covered buttons. So much work, but so lovely.
