There is something about a man in uniform and a sword that makes him dashing. Helena's parents' wedding was in 1979 in classic style. The long sleeves, the baby's breath, tons of lace, and the flower in her hair are so delicate and lovely.

Here is what Helena had to say about her submission:

These are four pictures from my parents' wedding. They got married in 1979. None of their families had a lot of money, so my mother's dress was borrowed and my dad got married in his Navy uniform, the only suit he owned. I know it made them kind of sad at the time, but I always tell them, “Are you freaking kidding me?! The wedding dress is so beautiful it could be worn even nowadays and not look outdated.

And my dad looks like an officer and a gentleman with the sword by his side, the gloves, and the hat. They got married in my mom's small village, where the first and second pictures were taken. In one of them, you can see our car (a Fiat 127, the EL-88-79) in which they drove off to their honeymoon. We had that car until I was twelve. I chose the close-up photo so you can see the top of the dress without the lace coat which served as a train. The bouquet was made with flowers from my great-grandfather's garden. The buttons on the sleeves and the lace are so beautiful!

A soldier and his bride. It's like a scene from a movie.

And the close-up of the dress and flower. Oh, those covered buttons. So much work, but so lovely.

  1. Gorgeous photos! Love the uniform!
My parents were married in ’79 too. They’d only been together 5mths!

I have some lovely photos dotted around my office from Mum’s first wedding in 74/75. She was about 19. She made all the dresses & has a gorgeous wide brimmed hat. The groom wore a white suit & clogs! My fave pic has her flanked with my grandparents but there’s also one of her with her Grandad. 🙂

60s/70s wedding photos are so sweet.

  2. LOVE this!! My parents got married in 78 and my mom’s dress was very similair with the baby’s breath and all! Your Dad is so cool! My dad was a nerd in a brown ruffle-tux lol But they did have the same ‘stache!
