Yes Ma'am Circus is a contemporary circus company based in Chicago. We provide a variety of unique and high quality entertainments for any type of event and venue: birthday parties, corporate shindigs, and of course, weddings. Our skills include aerial work, fire shows, tumbling, contortion, juggling, partnered acrobatics, stilt walking, belly dance, and much more. If you can dream it, we can provide it!
We have a portable aerial rig that can adjust height from 12ft to 23ft as well as a lyra-pole that can fit in spaces as short as 10 ft. Both pieces of equipment are standalones, requiring no extra set up from you or the venue, and both can function in and outdoors (weather permitting). They take under 30 minutes to go up and come down with only 2 people. No mess, no fuss!
We also offer smaller skills, to bring just a touch of circus spectacle to your wedding. Close-up magic, face-painters, glitter gals n' guys, tarot card readings, and costumed characters and guests can all provide that extra bit of flair, without breaking the bank.
How I cater to Offbeat Brides
For starters, I was one! My amazing sister and MOH banned me from all wedding sites other than Offbeat Bride, and it saved (most of) my sanity while I was wedding planning. Bonus, my wedding was a blast; I loved every minute of it! 7 years later, I still love looking at all the beautiful weddings and families that are featured on Offbeat Bride, and I read their home and family blog posts frequently.
At home I’m a bisexual woman, married to a cis man (yay bi-invisibility!), and a mother of two. My husband and I have a massive library stocked full of Brandon Sanderson, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Seanan McGuire, and T. Kingfisher. We play D&D, other RPG’s, and cooperative board games like Pandemic and Arkham Horror (because I’m a sore loser).
At work I had a hard time fitting in; ironic in an industry that started as a gathering place for “freaks.” I started Yes Ma’am Circus as a performance company because my friends and I struggled to find steady mainstream work as artists. We were too queer, or tattooed, or too short and curvy (okay, that last was just me). But we all loved circus and wanted to make beautiful art that celebrated all of our bodies, and that told new stories. Along the way, we fell into niche private event performances as a side hustle, and I loved it.
In particular, I love meeting and working with my clients to give them the magical circus experience they want. Sometimes we just pour some champagne for an hour and sparkle. Sometimes we bring out our 20′ tall rig and have a rotating cast of aerialists, jugglers, and acrobats roaming around all night long. No matter the scale of the event, I tailor the costumes, makeup, and performers to fulfill the clients’ dreams. This past year alone we’ve done 1920’s Black & Gold, modern Red & Black, and Renaissance-Faire Masquerade themes; we’ve done birthday celebrations for clients from 7 (Cars theme) to 70 (the masquerade) ; we’ve been at rockin’ interracial (Black and white) lesbian wedding, a traditional Nigerian wedding, and a romantically soft Black hetero wedding.
I believe that circus is for everybody and every body, and that applies to the performers I hire and the clients I work with. Let us bring the circus to you.
