One of the best characteristics of amazing, offbeat-embracing wedding photography is actual warm-fuzzy love for the couples and each of their personal love stories. That's what Seattle-based Julia Kinnunen brings to the table, in addition to her massive skill and charisma. When you know someone is loving what you're throwing down, you know they'll bring their A-game to the table to document your wedding day like a rock star. Let's talk to Julia about why you need to see if your date is available AND snag a special discount for name-dropping Offbeat Bride. What is your goal when capturing the feel of weddings? I believe that a photograph should represent true character and come fully loaded with personality. I love color, light, adventures, love stories, freckles, tattoos, and everything in between that makes each and every single one of us beautiful and special in our own rocking way. With me, it's always less about the flawless pretty stuff, and more about the gooey-centered good stuff. Why do you love offbeat clients specifically? I have the BEST job in the world. I get to meet my clients exactly where they're at in their journeys and tell their awesome love stories! No two couples look the same or come from the same background, and witnessing the different ways people celebrate the decision to share their life with their best friend never loses its sparkle. What's your specific approach stylistically? I've found that a photograph can manifest warm smiles and goosebumps, and the process should be enriching and encouraging. I meet people where they're at — bringing an enthusiastic and hands-off approach to documenting the day in order create the visual imagery that my clients value and cherish. Moments worth treasuring pass us by all the time without recognition, and I want to change that. My business is focused on creating images that reveal the best possible version of my clients every time someone looks at them. We also heard from one of Julia's clients who convinced us that choosing her was the most rad decision ever: Working with Julia was a dream come true. Being new to this area of the world, I didn't know what to expect or what to look for in a photographer. Those fears and uncertainties washed away quickly — everything Julia did for us was above-and-beyond. From an evening meeting at a Barnes & Noble Starbucks to get to know us, to shooting my best friends and I as we got ready, to walking down shaky docks and into the forest on our wedding day, Julia was fun, hilarious, intuitive and creative. She arrived with positivity and light to share with everyone; had great ideas about what would make the most nicely composed shots; chased the best light; gave perfect direction; wrangled our crazy families. She was fluid and flexible, and totally engaged throughout the day's celebrations. Our families thought she was our friend–which now, of course, she is! If you are looking for total acceptance, professionalism, talent and someone to showcase how very unique you and your loved ones are, you need Julia. – Leigh C.
