7 quirky wedding ideas (like a Winston Churchill theme) I didn't get to use, but YOU can

7 quirky wedding ideas (like a Winston Churchill theme) I didn’t get to use, but YOU can

The week before my wedding, I had a bit of a freak out (familiar to anyone else?). I realized that my wedding seemed really… serious. And I was not comfortable being serious about an important life moment while a bunch of people were staring at me.

In order to feel more comfortable during my own wedding, I came up with a variety of coping mechanisms. Due to poor planning (and some resistance from relatives), I just barely missed executing many of these ideas. Here they are, my gift to you…

A flamingo vow renewal at a renovated brewery (with unity pizza-cutting ceremony!)

The (literal) cheesiest unity ceremony ever: a unity pizza-cutting ceremony

Don’t think it wasn’t super hard to not make a “cutting the cheese” reference while I was writing this. You’re welcome. Unless you’re into fart jokes, then I’m sorry. Moving on. We celebrated Minerva and Max’s flamingo-clad vow renewal a while back and couldn’t wait to circle around again to remind you about one of our fave parts: the unity pizza-cutting ceremony! What’s better than taking the food you love and the person you and combining it all into a unity ceremony? Nuthin’.

#stealthisidea: the artichoke bouquet and 5 other wedding ideas I totally stole

Here on the blog we have a whole archive of posts called “Steal this idea” dedicated to (wait for it…) wedding ideas you should totally steal. I mean, almost every post on Offbeat Bride has at least one idea to steal, but sometimes we see these perfect little nuggets of ideas that we have to call out.

Here are a few ideas to steal that I’ve found on Instagram this week…

Postcard escort cards will give your guests travel wanderlust

Postcard escort cards will give your guests wanderlust AND show them to their tables

Courtney and Kelly had one of those travel-themed weddings that gives us chills and the urge to buy plane tickets. Their postcard escort cards were an even bigger invitation to get out of Dodge and start traveling. At least to their table at the reception, at least.

This idea makes me think of a globe guest book (they did that, too!), so it’s a whole package deal with the travel theme.

Wine bottle table numbers

Your excuse to drink a buncha booze: wine bottle table numbers

When it comes to offbeat centerpiece ideas, there’s nothing more classic than reused bottles. It’s a win-win: drink a lot of wine (or sparkly dry beverages in those cool flip-tip bottles!), fill ’em with pretty trinkets, candles, etc., and your centerpieces are made. But we’re loving the idea of doing double duty with wine bottle table numbers. You can totally DIY these, too, if you collect your own bottles and customize some vinyl decals.

A new spin on "happy tears" ceremony hankies

A new spin on “happy tears” ceremony hankies

Kim and Liz are adorable nerds who love themes, dancing, and making things themselves, including this “happy tears” ceremony hankies display. it’s pretty much guaranteed that someone on your guest list is a wedding crier (that would be me), so having handkerchiefs on hand is a great way to keep everyone’s making from free-flowing down their face.

We’ve seen hankie displays before, but I’m digging Kim and Liz’s idea to display them in rustic chic chicken wire for easy grabbing and nose-honking. Plus they make great favors.
