What if someone brings a gift to my “No gifts please” bridal shower?
A friend is throwing me a bridal shower which will include family members and friends. I’ve very specifically asked for a “no gifts please” announcement in the bridal shower invite, but reliable sources have indicated that at least a few family members might end up bringing a gift anyway.
If that happens, no biggie, but I’m wondering if I need to open those gifts at the shower or is okay to wait until after the shower?

Tribesmaid Writeroffiction and her groom had a killer coed wedding shower with trivia games instead of traditional shower games, a blind beer-tasting competition, and they skipped opening gifts at the party. The secret sauce of waiting to open their gifts was that they were able to write their thank-you notes as they opened the gifts.
Should we still have a wedding shower if we’re an eloping military couple?
Since my fiance is in the Army, we are not able to include friends and family on our wedding day. Should we be able to have a bridal shower and bachelorette party as planned? Are we cheating our friends out of what’s due to them since they are giving us gifts? Is it unfair to invite people to a shower, and then not invite them to a wedding?

For our engagement party, we said that if people wanted to bring gifts, they could bring a bottle of wine that we could pour at the wedding. I also think this could work really well for beer lovers by having everyone bring a six-pack of beer for the wedding.
