Travel through Tatooine, Middle Earth, Westeros & more at this pop culture travel-themed wedding (with April Fools pranks!)

Our geekdom runs deep and we're known to throw themed parties, so settling on a single fandom felt forced for an event of this magnitude. Instead, we decided to put a little bit of everything we love together for a truly unique experience. For a while, though, nothing fit together. Plus, we were annoyed by traditions that felt were “expected.” So, we identified what really mattered: bringing the people we love together and staying true to ourselves.

Then something clicked for our theme: inspired by a wall in our home covered in fictional maps. We chose a Pop Culture Travel theme!

Golden snitches and kilts at this geeky Scottish-inspired wedding in Maine

Denae and Daniel clearly spent so much time and so much love on the details of their Harry Potter geek Scottish wedding in Maine. Danae scouted all of her table settings from thrift stores to create the vintage-inspired setup. The ceremony archway was framed by replicas of the couple's pets: their cats and their lizard!

To cap it all off, there was a rainbow just as the reception was beginning. You just have to see it!

In case of dementor attack, you'll need this Harry Potter wedding favor

If you're a Potterphile, you know that chocolate bars have their own powers of soothing you after a dementor attack. So at a wedding with Harry Potter details (where a dementor could prey, naturally!), why not offer up some DIY Harry Potter wedding favors that will do the job nicely. Plus, it only takes some inexpensive chocolate bars, some printer paper, and a printable chocolate bar wrapper.

An Autumn witch lesbian wedding with tarot, tattoos, and beer

As practicing pagans, we also incorporated many elements of our spirituality, such as tarot readers at the reception and a Samhain memorial altar. Harry Potter has been interwoven into our relationship for 20 years, so we had subtle hints of our love for the series in our decor (side note: we got engaged at and shot our engagement photos at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter). We made our reception personal by including all the things we love: coffee, beer, tattoos, and tarot!
