The Offbeat Bride: Kellylane, RN

Her offbeat partner: Joseph, Web Development

Date and location of wedding: Ravine Gardens State Park, Palatka, FL — March 20, 2015

Our offbeat wedding at a glance:

I created our Star Wars invitations and RSVP cards. Joseph dressed as the dapper Han Solo, blaster and all. I walked down the aisle in hand-painted (by me) Star Wars shoes. We had Star Wars touches to everything. Each table had a character theme with a photo of the Star Wars character as well as action figures. We had a Star Wars photo area with Stormtrooper and Darth Maul masks, as well as cute Star Wars sayings to hold up, and of course lightsabers.

We had a Star Wars-themed candy buffet and played a group game of Apples to Apples, which turned out to be super fun and also played a “Stump the bride and groom” game where the attendants got to come up with funny questions to try and stump us, and if they could, they would receive a point. Whoever had the most points at the end of the night would get their choice of three gift baskets. We also had Star Wars Tervis tumblers to give away to people if they said secret Star Wars words throughout the night.

Tell us about the ceremony:

I walked down the aisle to my best friend Sarah singing Peter Gabriel's “In your eyes.” During the ceremony, my friend Sarah, her husband, her father, and my other best friend Nichole sang a beautiful piece called “Set Me as a Seal.”

Joey and I wrote our own vows. His were so good that he brought the whole place to tears… including himself and me! At the end of the ceremony, we walked off to The Imperial March, played by my best friend and her husband on guitar.

Tell us about your reception:

I hand-painted blue roses from egg cartons to go on each table. We had a Sith and Jedi guest book, one for well wishes and joyous words and the other was for nefarious words and inappropriate tidings. The favors were candy bags from the Star Wars candy buffet. We had: Pixie Stix lightsabers, gummy bear Ewoks, chocolate rock meteorites, Jar Jar's Dum-Dums, Han's Rolos, Jabba's Jelly Bellys, light side M&M's as well as dark side M&Ms, brick droid parts, and Hoth Jawbreakers.

For decor, we used black and blue with Star Wars posters. The tag line for our wedding was, “I love you. I know,” So, I had Han and Leia everywhere around the reception room. We also had board games around the whole reception area. We had a point system through the night where attendants could collect points by playing certain games, doing certain things or saying certain words.

Comments on Lightsabers, games, and hand-painted shoes at Kellylane & Joseph’s Star Wars wedding

    • Thank you! It was so much fun painting them, and even more fun wearing them on my wedding day. 🙂

    • Thanks! I bought the original shoes at ROSS for 20 dollars, then painted them with acrylic paint.
