Add a science-y vibe to your ceremony with this mash-up reading #Ceremony Advice#ceremony#ceremony script#chemistry#readings#secular#steal-this-idea Updated Feb 10 2020 (Posted Nov 18 2014) Catherine Clark bijouxandbits Photos by: You'll be seeing a LEGO-themed wedding later in the week that will make any LEGO fan wet their pants with delight, but Jess and Mac also included some science into their ceremony instead of any religious readings that we couldn't resist previewing. This is a mash-up of different writings from the likes of Carl Sagan, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Albert Einstein, and others: Lost somewhere between immensity and eternity is a tiny blue dot that we humans call home. And yet our species is young and curious and brave and shows much promise. In the last few millennia we have made the most astonishing and unexpected discoveries. We are constantly reminded that humans have evolved to wonder, that understanding is a joy, that knowledge is a prerequisite to survival. Our little planet floats like a mote of dust in the morning sky. All that you see, all that we can see, exploded out of a star billions of years ago, and the particles slowly arranged themselves into living things, including all of us. We are made of star stuff. We are the mechanism by which the universe can comprehend itself. The world is so exquisite with so much love and moral depth. We should remain grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides. The sum of all our evolution, our thinking and our accomplishments is love. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with the person you love for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's relativity. A marriage makes two fractional lives a whole. It gives to two questioning natures a renewed reason for living. It brings a new gladness to the sunshine, a new fragrance to the flowers, a new beauty to the earth, and a new mystery to life. If you're looking for a non-religious reading for a secular ceremony or just want to celebrate your love of science (and each other!), a little reading like this may be the ticket. We'll be seeing more awesomeness of this magnitude from Jess and Mac later in the week. Stay tuned! Reply Thank you! It took a LOT of scouring the internet and HOURS of reading quotes & articles by my favorite astrophysicists and authors to come to get the final product, but it was worth it! Reply I friggen love everything about this! Reply Thanks! We found that it fit our dorkiness and desire to have as secular of a ceremony as possible. Reply Would the bride and groom mind if I used some of this for my wedding? It's absolutely beautiful. Reply Bride here! Yes, go ahead! Totally fine, and I'm glad to read that others like our reading! Reply Same question- do you mind if we use it as a reading? I can't even with how amazing and perfect this is! Reply Go for it, Megan! I'm glad you love it, too! Reply I also love love love this mashup. I would love to use it, if that's ok? Do you have a name/title for it? (If not would you like to give it one?) I would love to reference you in my ceremony! Wow. WOW. Wow. Reply What a great site, and what a great reading… I am sending this to our justice of the peace for her to read so she can have an insight into how we feel, because it encapsulates exactly the tone we want for our wedding, and as Allison says unfortunately couldn't find a similar reading anywhere else online after HOURS of looking! What a great site, so many fantastic extracts and quotations to inspire and choose from. Thank you for sharing! Reply If I may ask, who are the others referenced other than Sagan, Tyson, and Einstein? Reply The second half of the last paragraphs is almost entirely Mark Twain. Sorry for the delay! I don't frequent this article often! But I'm so glad so many people liked our reading! Reply I love this SO much. It is absolutely perfect. Reply I love it! I was looking at quotes by NdGT and C Sagan that could work as wedding reading and this is perfect! Reply If you don't mind I would love to use this in my upcoming wedding. It works so well for my other half as he loves astrophysics and references Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot so often. Reply Sure thing! 🙂 *Thanks,* *Jess* Reply Join the conversation Cancel ReplyYour email address will not be published.
