Today's aesthetic: NYC cherry blossoms and a bride in pants

Portrait of a bride and groom in Queens
Photos by Kelly Williams, Photographer

Something that really speaks to my personal aesthetic is a bride in pants. There's just this, mmm, thing about them that's so powerful-looking and sexy. And Melanie threw in a pair of leopard-print heels, which ALWAYS turns an outfit up to 11. I'm also digging the bright yellow nails. Not a shade you see every day on a bride, and I love it!

Melanie and Jalani said their vows under cherry blossom trees in New York City last year, specifically near the World's Fair Unisphere in Queens' Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The ceremony was kiiiiiiiiind of an elopement/not really — the couple kept all the details about the wedding under a strict need-to-know basis.

Keeping it between “us” and as low-key and hassle-free as possible is a testament of how we want to spend the rest of our lives together. -Melanie

Among the hidden details were a hand-fastening ceremony, a ring warming, and Melanie and Jalani jumped a broom created by Melanie's mom.

  1. What a beautiful wedding, both in its simplicity and style. I love how happy everyone (including the couple) looks! It's awesome to see a bride in stylish pants, with all the right accessories. The matching of the nail polish to the groom's boutonniere was an especially excellent touch. Congrats to the couple!!

  2. I love how everyone looks so happy, I love all the little touches of yellow all the way through the wedding and I am in complete amazement at that cake. Just look at the subtle ombre on the top tier! And all the beautiful swirls!

  3. I'm touched by the strong emotions you can see between Melanie and Jalani have towards each other and their family/friends. Definitely an amazing credit not just to them but also their photographer for catching them.

  4. I'm so excited to see this post! I'll be wearing pants in my wedding and it's so hard to find inspiration when the world seems so obsessed with putting you into a dress.
