Offbeat Bride's most viral weddings of all time

I trawled our statistics to find the 15 most viral, most read, most shared real offbeat weddings of all time to end 2015. If there's one thing I've learned from this exercise, it's that Offbeat Bride readers definitely share my passion for Harry Potter (and I couldn't be more psyched!). Here's our countdown of the 15 most viral weddings on Offbeat Bride. Which ones do YOU remember?

15: The Sailor Moon-inspired moonlight gala

After her Austenland-themed shower, we know Michelle & William's Art Deco Sailor Moon-inspired moonlight gala was going to keep everyone buzzing. We were not wrong.

14: The Access-a-wedding

Natalie & Tim's green-filled access-a-wedding had so many details that made it go viral: the bride's killer green-lined dress (that she made herself!), the groom's awesome mindset, and the most epic wedding logo ever. Go see!

13: The one with the kick-ass tattoos

Sarah & Tasha's tattooed and not-strictly-traditional wedding had one special highlight that totally rocked: their adjoining bridge tattoos. We're so not surprised that these ladies were popular.

12: The first of a few Harry Potter weddings

A magical and bookish Harry Potter wedding with a golden snitch cake — yeah, the snitch cake alone makes me want to show this one to everyone at The Three Broomsticks.

11: The Jessica Rabbit shoot

This Jessica Rabbit bridal look had us saying, “How do I love thee?” This one is the only non-real wedding in this list as it's a styled fashion shoot, but man did it deserve some love. I mean, can you say gorgeous? Then again, maybe part of why it got so much traffic was the commentroversy over the lack of smiling.

10: The time-traveling 1930s wedding

This 1930s garden party wedding looks like it was teleported to 2015 from the past. Ashley, Robert, and their friends dress like this as a hobby, so it was a natural fit.

9: Harry Potter and the next viral wedding

The second most popular Potterphile wedding on our list is just as amazing as the last with its golden snitch details, Unbreakable Vow ring book, and house outfit photo booth.

8: The one with the blue dress

The curvaceous blue dress, that groom's leather outfit, the headpiece, those glow-in-the-dark tents — no wonder this wedding got Buzzfeed-level of clicks. Heart eyes!

7: The one with the denim shirt

This bride got married in the shirt she wore on her first date with her husband, which broke the internet for a day. Casual meets formal meets OUR HEARTS.

6:The one with the BBC star

Liz & Jo’s disability-friendly wedding bash gets re-picked up once in a while since bride Liz is a popular actor in the UK. But we just love their story.

5: A most epic fantasy wedding

Heather & Bobby's Lord of the Rings meets Game of Thrones fantasy wedding is that sweet spot of heavy-on-theme meets heavy-on-style. It's just so perfectly lush and nerdy chic. Plus, the groom wore a codpiece. COME ON.

4: The three-bride wedding

Kitten, Brynn, and Doll's rainbow garden of poly love three-bride wedding definitely got some attention for the whole three-bride thing, but it's also because these three are GORGEOUS and had a seriously beautiful forest wedding. Oh, and they're mommies now!

3: The Dr. Seuss wedding of our dreams

This Dr. Seuss wedding in a Philadelphia cemetery had book titles as escort cards, Truffula trees for centerpieces everywhere, a guest with a genuine Lorax mustache. Oh, and a most beauteous pink dress!

2: The final Harry Potter wedding!

Were you thinking that a wizarding world wedding might be number one? Nope, but it's close! Second to the top of our list is none other than this Harry Potter wedding, complete with exploding Goblet of Fire, house tables, Monster Book of Monsters guest book, and a Snape lookalike.

1: The one with THE HAIR

I'm not going to lie, the hair, fashion, and flowers are the standout for me in this goth wedding, but it's the overall glamour that pulls everyone in. The Swarovski heels, the dark and glitzy bouquets, and of course the perfectly purple mane of hair… le sigh. It's no wonder this one tops our list of most viral offbeat weddings.

But what happens when your wedding goes viral?

Did your favorite wedding make the list? Which ones were you rooting for?

Comments on Offbeat Bride’s 15 most viral weddings of all time

  1. I remember so many of these! Can’t possibly pick a favorite but all the Harry Potter ones are close to my heart. If we didn’t go with horror movies it would have been Harry Potter for us too! I’m already trying to convince my husband to do a Harry Potter 5 year vow renewal!

  2. Yaaas. The Harry Potter Wedding just gave me some Unity Ceremony ideas. This whole list is amazing.

  3. Pinterest shares don’t equal viral… Since you started combining all shares into one thing it’s hard to tell how things are shared. To me something goes viral when news articles are written about them, not when someone repins to their wedding board…

    • I didn’t choose these based on Pinterest shares, but on a number of factors including total traffic which takes into account traffic from other sources.

      • I see… Even though the Jessica rabbit one is gorgeous though, I’ve seen so many styled shoots that are equal to it. There are so many brides of different shapes and sizes and interests and backgrounds, picking a fake wedding as one of your most popular weddings doesn’t represent your readership accurately. Even if it is a niche interest with a non traditional dress…

        • I’d disagree that it, “doesn’t represent your readership accurately.” If it’s one of the most shared or most viewed weddings, that would lead me to believe that it’s in line with the aesthetic users of this site go for.

    • That’s an interesting perspective. Our wedding had an article written about it that was featured in three of our local papers, which was awesome and flattering, but I wouldn’t say our wedding went viral. To me that is a strictly internet term based on shares, likes, etc. I know that most newspapers have websites now but to me being in a newspaper and going viral on the internet are separate ideas. Maybe because the internet has so much of a broader reach than just our local newspapers. Ah well, maybe we’ll get the chance to go viral someday if OBB features us! 😉

      • I know weddings that were featured here and had online articles or were shared on other websites through this one, I meant online articles, sorry if I was unclear! I’m sure your wedding was lovely 🙂

  4. #8 is totally my favorite and i have it pinned, saved, and i go back and look at it a lot.
