Karen and Sam's wedding took place at Preservation Park in downtown Oakland, California — and it turns out this park is the perfect backdrop for creative couples who are infatuated with all things CUTE. Everything is adorbz… from the rainbow paper cranes to the happy-faced plushies decorating the reception spot.

The geeks in the house might recognize Sam as the writer and performer behind Mario Kart Love Song. He's also written quite a few other tunes, and serenaded Sam with a few of his originals. Oh, and speaking of music: Death Cab fans will love the couple's first dance pick, I Will Follow You Into The Dark.

  1. Mario Kart Love Song is in our running for first dance songs (and my personal favorite 😉 ).
I also LOVED the Hen and Chicks in the bouquet because it gave me an idea! Every one in my family (except me, and that’s just because I’m in an apartment) grows these. They’re all descended from my great grandmother’s garden. That might just be my something old.

  2. One of my best friends got married last year and MarioKart Love Song was their first dance song… so for their 1st anniversary, I asked Sam Hart if I could mail him a blank card, have him sign it, and send it back… he was INCREDIBLE and wrote all sorts of great things and even doodled little MarioKart things for them. Great guy, great song, and looks like a great wedding 🙂

  3. Crab AND lobster AND filet mignon AND duck AND sea bass!!!! That menu is off the hook!

( Can we say ‘off the hook’ again? Is it old enough to be retro now? )

  4. Hi! Your dress is gorgeous. Where did you get it? I’m looking at similar styles and would love more options!
    Thanks!

  5. Thank you so much for featuring us! Vivian was just a fantastic photographer 🙂

Jessica – the dress is Justin Alexander 8530.

  6. Mario Kart Love Song was mine and my husband’s first dance song! On our first date we played Mario Kart and he beat me so when we found that song we knew it was perfect! We even named our dog Toad in honor of it.

  7. Our wedding recessional was Sam Hart’s “We Are Spoons”. It’s my husbands favorite, though I’m partial to “If You Ask Me To”. I emailed Sam to get permission to use his song at my wedding and he was so nice and helpful. I’m so happy for them!

  8. The Mario Kart Love Song was our first dance song, and it turns out some of our guests were friends of Sam’s! My husband (and his friends the wedding guests) went to college with him as well apparently. Congrats to them, many happy years of karting together!
