I am obsessed with Janelle Monáe. I loved her EP back in 2008 (have you seen the Many Moons video? HOLY SHIT), and now that her LP, ArchAndroid has finally come out? I may never listen to anything else evar again. Sci-fi concept afropunk concept album about an android in love with a human?

…Pity my husband, 'cuz that thing's been on repeat for the last month.

To honor Miss Monáe, I decided to focus on her signature footwear: oxfords. Because while brightly colored heels may be quirky, ain't nuthin' more offbeat than a pair of freaking OXFORDS sticking out from under your gown or, even better and more Monáe-ish, YOUR LADY-TUX! Let me see you Tightrope!

  1. I got her album two days ago and it's been on repeat since! Amazing!

And the shoes! Also amazing! I don't wear leather but those low-heel shoes are so subtly classy. Love.

  2. Just found her after a blog post on Jezebel. My god, she is so very awesome.

And I am a complete sucker for saddle shoes.

  3. I LOVE this post! Thanks Ariel! I'm wearing oxfords at my wedding because we're having a 30s/40s theme and they are amazing for swing dancing! Curse my compter for being down (I'm using my mobile) or I'd post a picture of these ivory & pink beauties! Who else is wearing these kick ass shoes?

  4. *SWOON* Oh Janelle Monae! I caught her interview with Terry Gross a year or so ago and have been hopelessly in lust ever since. Her music, style, dancing…. everything… is amazing.

  5. I wanted to wear gold and white spectator-style heels for my wedding, but naturally they don't exist anywhere, not to my specifications. So I painted them myself! Sadly my photographer didn't get any pictures, but I'll dig them out and take a picture to post.
