May the Fourth be with this Star Trek meets Star Wars wedding #Real Weddings: Southern US#geeky weddings#star trek#star wars#virginia Updated Jun 10 2020 (Posted May 4 2016) Offbeat Editors Photos by: Hope Taylor Photography Photos by Hope Taylor Photography The Offbeat Bride: Sarah, Associate Youth Director Her offbeat partner: Austin, Paralegal Date and location of wedding: Rock Hill, Stafford VA — May 17, 2015 Our offbeat wedding at a glance: Austin and I are nerds so we had a Star Wars/Star Trek-themed wedding. Think fifth grade birthday party mixed with elegant wedding. The result was colorful and fun (and classy). We tried to infuse as much of our personality as possible and it was awesome. Tell us about the ceremony: We used the musical themes from Star Wars and Star Trek during our ceremony and all of our flowers were paper bouquets mixed with live greenery. It was a beautiful colorful combo without all the cost! The groomsmen had silver Star Trek insignia pins on their boutonnieres while Austin had a Star Wars tie. The program had a lot of nerdy puns and there was a Star Trek poem to go along with the waving wands. Tell us about your reception: Lots of dancing! Our families and friends are awesome and such a blast. It was amazing to have all the people we love with us genuinely happy and warm. It was definitely a party. They even got crazy with some lightsabers during the dancing. Our wedding toppers were bobble head Princess Leia and Captain Kirk and the cupcakes had lightsabers or Star Trek insignias on them. We had star garlands wrapped around the decor and our tables were named after favorite characters and ships in the movies. What was your most important lesson learned? I think our biggest challenge was wanting to do a special theme, but only finding cheesy birthday party ideas. (Hint: check here!) We had to figure out how to translate our nerdy personality into a beautiful classy affair (and on a small budget). We got pretty creative and did most of the work ourselves. I think a huge part of the success of our wedding is all the love and help we received from our families and friends and we didn't compromise on our idea just to make it easy. It worked out perfectly! Vendors Photographer: Hope Taylor Photography Dress: Ann's Boutique (Sophi Tolli design/Nightingale) Flowers: Lille Syster Gallery This slideshow requires JavaScript. Looks like a super fun time! Reply Thank you! I'm so glad you said that because the color was the biggest challenge for us! I LOVE bright colors, but was afraid of it being cheesy. We made the invites first and selected the colors there. Strangely, it was hard to find matching paper and ribbons to go along with it.
