Remember that super-informative post we ran with 11 awesome pieces of advice for those of you who don't want to end up hating you wedding photos? Well, our sponsor DIY Uplighting was basically piece of advice #10:
Turn crappy into happy with uplighting
I've seen a DJ turn a bare room with four walls into a Vegas Nightclub with uplighting. Most professional DJs offer uplighting packages. Want to do it yourself? Check out this offbeat vendor.
So let's talk some more about the bad-photo-preventing, awesome-venue-assisting, party-atmosphere-creating power of one of our most-Pinned vendors — DIY Uplighting…
You might want DIY Uplighting if you:

- have a venue that's practical, but not fantastical — an empty gallery, community halls, your parents' home, etc.
- are worried about your reception not having enough party atmosphere: lighting is one of the keys to an awesome party
- are on a budget: save hundreds of dollars by setting up your own lighting
How it works:
- Reserve your lighting with only a $25 deposit. To submit your reservation, get started by checking availability and then complete the reservation agreement.
- Receive your shipment at least 2-3 days prior to your event.
- Plug the lights in, select your color, and then enjoy your event. (Check out how easy it is to set up.)
- Pack up the lights and all cables in the boxes they came in and ship them back for free!
DIY Uplighting gives you a super-easy, low-stress DIY project that's going to turn your wedding into a rockin' event. But availability is limited, so to guarantee that they'll have enough lights in stock to ship to you, you better reserve your DIY Uplighting early!
Oh…I was under the impression that “DIY” actually meant “do it yourself” and was hoping to see some tips on how to do uplighting on my own. Anyone know where I could find those?
I’m confused, because isn’t that exactly what this post is telling you how to do? This is a post about a company called DIY Uplighting that rents you lights so that you can, you know, diy your uplighting. They have a whole video showing you how to set them up: https://www.diyuplighting.com/how_it_works
Are you looking for instructions on how to, like, make your own lights or something? Watching the video, I’m not sure how else you’d get more DIY than 1. rent lights 2. set them up yourself.
Sort of…I mean like repurposing lights/candles for up lighting purposes (positioning tips, what kinds to look for, colors and shadows, etc) and not renting from a specific vendor.
Of course now I see that this is an ad.
Yeah, I thought the same thing you did.
but………I guess it’s still a DIY thing….by the time you source and buy all the lights, you’d probably spend way more than renting them, and the setup doesn’t look complicated at all. (plus I am SUPER scared of candles in great numbers lol)
Thanks for the tip!!! Reserved my 20 lights right away! Fingers crossed!
What timing! I bookmarked this website last week and now they’re on OBB. I definitely like the idea of not paying crazy upcharges for every little thing, so when I found this company, I was stoked since we definitely want uplighting! For the electronic and gadget-challenged, how long do you think it’d take to set up 8 of these uplights?
Love the cake pic. It’s fantastic!
