Devon Rowland is also featured in our Offbeat Vendors guide! Nervous about your portrait photography session on your wedding day? Or are you wondering how you're going to make your photos feel like you. Our sponsor, Baltimore-Washington-based Devon Rowland Photography, is here to show us how she puts the "traits" in portraits. (Get it! Omg, I'm so damn clever ridiculous.) First of all, when this is the reason you start photographing weddings, you're bound to take some amazing personality-capturing shots… As a photographer, I initially honed my craft by photographing anything and everything I could get my hands on from my everyday life, which often meant offbeat events like burlesque and sideshows, swing dancing (yes, that's still a thing!), and fire performance. When I started photographing weddings, I loved that I was working with couples who put a lot into their big day and making their wedding reflective of who they are together, no matter how nerdy or weird or completely normal that was. Let's now ogle some of the best wedding portraits you'll see today, and hear about WHY they're so awesome, from Devon Rowland's couples themselves… The rain… the heavenly light… and the looks on their faces that just scream "who cares about rain, when we have each other." This photo is pure unfiltered romance. Who needs to see faces? You can identify these two by their super-unique accessories! Devon captured the rare and impressive Double Leg Kick of Love! Devon was a dream on my wedding day. She had a fun yet grounded personality style that flowed well with all the different personalities of the wedding party. She had creative ideas for our couple shots that weren't forced or trite, and the finished product… OMG! Devon produced the best photos my husband and I have of each other… just breathtaking. I highly recommend this creative, talented photographer! All I have to say is, "awwwwww!!!" So many photographers would have had their couples stare longingly at each other, or kiss, or something generic in this photo. Not Devon! The silly face squishy nose kiss captured this couple more than any fake staring contest could. I can't say enough good things about Devon and her photography! She is a true pleasure to work with — very calm, fun, and kind. My husband and I are not the most comfortable in front of cameras, certainly not for portraits, and she put us at ease. Just as importantly, her work is simply gorgeous. She has a real talent for capturing the spirit of a moment, whether it's sweet or silly. It's a photo of two dudes standing together, and yet IT'S EVERYTHING you need to know about their love. I'm telling you right now, if my fiancé and I bowed to each other for a wedding photo, it would look so weird. But these two… look so effing natural and beautiful while bowing, because look at them 00 of COURSE they would. Devon was fabulous. She took the time to get to know me and my husband and made sure that her photos not only captured the events of the day, but the feeling, and most importantly, the personality that made it truly "ours." From simple loving moments, to fiery explosions… holy hell, how amazing is this photo? Shut down the internet, because Devon Rowland just took the ultimate wedding photo of all time. From bows and nose squishies, to rainy nights and high jumps — Devon Rowland's wedding photography is, well, on FIRE. And if you're in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. area, you, too, can have your own set of perfectly personal wedding photos. Devon is one of the awesome wedding photographers who actually lists their rates!
