Brittany and Matthew’s wedding at The Engine Room in Georgia had some seriously rad elements including an electric car for the ring bearer, a 3D-printed rose gold wedding band, geometric and metallic decor elements mixed with chiffon in an industrial space, and a homemade photo booth. But their glowing science experiment unity ceremony stole the show for us. So much of it was DIYed because the pair is super crafty. So it made total sense to craft up a unity ceremony, too.
Here's what Brittany said about it…
When planning our ceremony, we decided we wanted to do a twist on the traditional unity ceremony. We’re pretty big nerds, so we opted to do a chemical reaction. We did a ton of research, and in the end we decided to do the “glow stick” reaction. As it turns out, it was more cost-effective to buy and separate a ton of glowsticks than it was to buy or make the reactants, so that’s exactly what we did! During the ceremony, we each took one reactant, and poured it into a large erlenmeyer flask, which resulted in a bright blue glow! We put the flask on our sweetheart table, and it glowed all night long.
Here's a little from Brittany about her favorite moments…
If I had to choose one favorite, it would probably be our ceremony. Matthew and I grew up together, so I never expected that I would be nervous, but my hands were shaking! However, his vows were so personal and so sweet, and I loved our chemistry unity ceremony. Amazingly, I managed to hold it together through the whole ceremony and recessional, only to turn around and see my baby brother wiping his eyes. That’s when I lost it!
My favorite crafted detail definitely has to be our ring bearer car. I did a ton of hunting online to find the perfect pink pedal car for our ring bearer to “drive” down the aisle, and Matthew ripped out all the insides, and converted it to electric so it could be driven via remote control by a trustworthy adult. After the ceremony, all the kids (including me!) got to ride it around the reception space. It was a blast!
