Our offbeat wedding at a glance:

We knew we wanted to do something unique, something that was us. We went to a Valentine's day brunch aboard the New Hope railroad shortly after getting engaged and thought it would be a perfect venue for a wedding.

We included as many personal touches as we could. Our married name is Kirk, so we included a lot of Star Trek touches. Rich is also an avid baseball fan, so of course he wanted a baseball-themed ring. And I am an avid reader, so my bouquet was made of book page flowers. All in all, it was a very laid-back Sunday brunch wedding.

Tell us about the ceremony:

We had a short ceremony, officiated by a good friend. There were no religious elements. We wrote our own vows, and included vows from Rich to his new stepson, Riley. Riley was thrilled with the Ring Pop Rich surprised him with.

Seeing my son be so happy about gaining a step-dad was a highlight of the day. He kept saying “we're marrying Rich today.”

Tell us about your reception:

It was a brunch wedding, so we had all brunch foods. The french toast casserole was a huge hit. The kids at the wedding loved their table, which featured custom hashtag temporary tattoos, train whistles, coloring books, and Star Trek crayons. Once the train returned to the station, there was an ice cream truck waiting! Afterwards, we went to the bar next door to the train station for some celebratory drinks. It kept the party going for us and was a good way to extend our morning ceremony/reception into an all day event.

  1. Wow! This encourages my wish to do a brunch buffet! Not sure where or when, but Yes! Also you look beautiful.

    • Thank you so much! We had a blast. The food was awesome- I am STILL thinking about how good the breakfast sandwiches we served were.

  2. Gorgeous! I’m in love with this wedding! <3 Such a cute and happy couple! We're having a brunch reception, too, in January 2018. We are also including a "Wedding newspaper" for our guests to read. Sadly, we won't be able to celebrate on a train… But it's still going to be awesome! Brunch receptions rock! 😉 Congratulations to the beautiful couple! 🙂

  3. Brunch, Star Trek AND New Hope?!?! I love this wedding, it looks like it was so much fun!
    Congratulations to you both!
