We're totally sick of the term Bridezilla, but there's no denying that as you grind your way through wedding planning, it can be helpful to have a term for that rage-filled, insane creature that bubbles up in your mind at times.
And now, courtesy of an offbeat reader and her fiance, we finally have our new term:
My biggest fear is becoming a Bridezilla of epic proportions. My wonderful fiance swears that I could never be one no matter how hard I try — and that Bridethulhu would be a much more fitting epithet. It made me laugh and things like that are one of the reasons I am marrying the beast.
There you have it! Old and busted: Bridezilla. The new hotness: BRIDETHULHU!
For those unfamiliar with H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu character, here's a little back-story courtesy of Wikipedia:
H. P. Lovecraft's initial short story, “The Call of Cthulhu”, was published in Weird Tales in 1928. Described as resembling “…an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature…. A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque scaly body with rudimentary wings,” the imprisoned Cthulhu is apparently the source of constant anxiety for mankind at a subconscious level.
“The source of constant anxiety at a subconscious level” pretty much exactly sums up my wedding planning experience. BRIDETHULHU: BEGONE!
