Gift "play-along-at-home kits" to family and friends who can't make the wedding #Advice#steal-this-idea#wedding favors#welcome bag Updated Oct 12 2015 (Posted Feb 22 2013) Catherine Clark bijouxandbits Our Offbeat Intern, Liz, had an amazing idea that she made happen at her handmade well-armed wedding: a play-along-at-home kit! The concept is that you send out a care package of sorts to any family or friends who can't make the wedding. It could contain an invite, a favor, activity books, your program, and in Liz's case, a "ticket" to log in and watch the ceremony live-streamed. Anyone who can't make it can still feel like they were a part of your day, with a tangible gift to remember it by. Liz and her groom Kevin took it one step further and made it into an actual game: We ordered game boxes and resurfaced some Scrabble boards with Mod Podge into a "game board" and put little pieces in. We then added the favors (dinosaur temporary tattoos, wacky placemats, mini four-packs of Star Wars crayons, twenty-sided dice, popcorn, and the tickets to log on to the live-streaming. I'm going to do something similar, except mine will be "let's pretend you were here" packages. I want to wait until after the wedding so that I can include pictures and frozen pieces of cake. (The mother of an ex of mine used to send her son frozen baked goods when he lived in Alaska, so I know it can be done.) Reply There are quite a few ways, but here is one method we've talked about before. Reply Many phones nowadays can be turned into wireless hot-spots, and if you have 4G then it's often pretty decent. You may be able to test it out and see if streaming would work that way. Reply What a wonderful idea! I'd love to do something like this for a few special people who won't make it to the wedding.. Reply This is such a fabulous idea. We're trying to decide right now if we should have a longer than we'd like engagement so that people (my sister, brother in-law and neices as well as my son and his family not just randoms) can actually save up and attend or resign myself to getting married without my nieces and son in attendance…I'm glad to know there are options to include those who can't attend.
