Boys and girls of every age, wouldn't you like to see something strange? It's our favorite week for spooky, gothic, and horror-themed weddings — it's HALLOWEEN WEEK!

Halloween Wedding

The Offbeat Bride: Karen

Her offbeat partner: Chris

Date and location of wedding: MillaNova Winery, Mount Washington, Kentucky — October 31, 2013

Our offbeat wedding at a glance: I have been a Halloween fanatic my entire life and I really obsess over it. It's not just a holiday, it's a lifestyle for us. We were going for a Victorian/Halloween-themed wedding, with a little bit of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Our flower girl tossed leaves instead of flower petals, while sporting an orange The Nightmare Before Christmas-themed dress. Our guests attended in costumes and we held a costume contest as well. Pumpkins, leaves, and candy were everywhere.

Tell us about the ceremony:
Chris and I are not religious and didn't want a religious wedding, so I searched for the most perfect poem to fit our quirkiness, while also holding a higher meaning for us. So our Justice of the Peace read Dr. Seuss' “Oh the Places You'll Go.”

As my entrance song to the ceremony, I chose the instrumental tune of “Die my Bride” by Murderdolls (which was definitely a head turner!). As our exit song, we walked out to “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC.

Halloween WeddingOur biggest challenge:
One of our groomsman didn't show up. At the last minute, after failed attempts trying to get a hold of him, Chris chose one of our good friends to replace him. The funny thing was that the guy who replaced our original groomsman shares his name.

Our new groomsman, Brandon, was dressed as Spock from Star Trek. Having Spock as a groomsman was pretty funny and it all turned out fine.

My favorite moment:
I definitely would have to say our first dance as a married couple was my favorite. Chris and I are not dancers, and we have never danced before.

We both almost had a panic attack trying to dance in front of all the people at our wedding, but we held each other tightly and kept telling one another “I love you” and “this is the best day of my life.”

It made it very special for us.

My funniest moment:
At the time where we exchanged rings, neither of our rings would go on! We struggled to get them on while our guests just watched in silence. We giggled and laughed, and the guests did, too. Eventually we got them on and continued with the ceremony.

Comments on Karen & Chris’ spooktacular Halloween wedding

  1. Pardon my language but, Fuck YEAH! This wedding is nothing short of incredible. The COLOURS!!! The decor! THAT DRESS!! Love, love, love! Congrats Karen & Chris! 😀

  2. Beautiful! So many great details (fingernails, flowers, candles, repeating fall color leaves as well as pumpkins, gorgeous cake, the candle)! And that dress…So! Fantastic!!

  3. Ahh! I love all the Halloween touches. I had a Hallowedding too — it’s featured somewhere on this site — in 2012. I got super squee-like over the custom Holland House Candle. I’m from Holland, Mi., (where they’re made) and I used to work in the shop next door. On our breaks we’d stand around and watch the ladies make candles.
