Learn more about our ads. Hey look: it's the Indie Wedding DJ spinning awesome tunes just for you! Oh man, the perils of booking a wedding DJ — nothing gave me more trepidation. I kept telling my day-of planner, "No cheesy DJs! I don't care who you hire, just please… no cheese!" What did I get… cheese. Sad trombone. Lucky for you Toronto, Ontario peeps, you have a fail-safe, non-cheesy DJ plan with offbeat sponsor Indie Wedding DJ! Indie Wedding DJ's philosophy is simple: play only great music at your wedding. They do have a particular passion for indie music — Arcade Fire, Phoenix, MGMT, LCD Soundsystem, The Strokes, Wolf Parade, Florence + the Machine, etc. — but they also love playing a variety of genres including classic rock and pop from the '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s, and '90s, along with old school rap, soul, and disco. This means they help you pull off the ultimate party wish: EVERYONE, from your little cousins to your grandma, is dancing, but your indie-music-loving friends aren't rolling their eyes. Of course, any DJ will say that they play the best songs that will make your whole party dance, yadda yadda yadda, but how is it that I can guarantee that Indie Wedding DJ reeeeeeally won't bring the cheese? I present to you their anti-cheese promise: 10 cheesy songs that the Indie Wedding DJ will promise not to play. I love it! Speaking of song lists, even those of you who aren't looking for a Toronto DJ should head over to the Indie Wedding DJ blog, because they have put together a FREE indie music guide for your wedding! Now why the Indie Wedding DJ is giving away the recipe to their secret sauce is beyond me, but we definitely love 'em for it. To those of you who ARE looking for a Toronto wedding DJ: head over to their website and, once you watch this adorable video, you should book 'em ASAP! Wish I'd found this DJ when I was doing my search 🙁 Looks awesome! 1 agrees Reply Reaaalllly wanted to hire you, but you were already booked on our day. 🙁 You rock! (from my short correspondence with you anyway.) Reply Hey Justine! Thanks for commenting even though I won't be your DJ! I hope that your wedding is awesome! Justin Reply For those not near Toronto, just dig through your local dance music scene in a genre you like and holla at one of those DJs. A good percentage will sell out for an evening of wedding sets since the extra cash is always welcome and they almost all have a severe allergy to cheese. Reply I'm wondering what Ariel had as her set list, being of raver blood and all. (love!) Reply The dancing part of our wedding reception was 8+ hours long and featured three of our pro-DJ friends playing first rare groove, then breaks, then Moontribe house/stuff. I have the rare groove/funk playlist — maybe I'll share it as part of our upcoming playlist series. Reply Effing awesome! Yes, you really need to share your playlist, sounds amazing! Reply Just want to say it's awesome to see a sponsor who is relevant for Canadian brides! Reply I am really not being overly generous with my rating of Indie Wedding DJ! Justin was amazing from start to finish. I live in Ottawa and I was looking everywhere for a DJ that I could trust with one of the most important parts of the night. I had already settled for a run of the mill DJ here and when I found out this company existed, I thought I'd ask if he was willing to travel here. He got back to me right away and thankfully I was able to get out of having to settle with the other DJ company! From the moment I first contacted Justin, my mind was at ease. He was so thorough and so easy to talk to, super professional too! Justin takes his job seriously and from the start of our interactions you could tell he loves his job. He was the only vendor I felt personalized his services, you can tell he cares! We emailed back and forth 2-3 months before the wedding and he never made me feel like I was a bother, always quick, professional and honest answers to my many questions and requests. He took control without making me feel like I had none. He played so many of my requests and was so good at feeling out the crowd and knowing what type of music I was interested in hearing based on my requests. He was also very open to playing Salsa (I am Hispanic) and Quebecois Chansonieres (the groom is Quebecois) to please everyone. Oh! And he meets with you for about an hour to talk about what you'd like to hear at the wedding and just to get to know the couple. It was such a positive experience for us! If music is important to you and you are sick of overplayed tacky songs, I recommend you hire Justin NOW! (before he gets booked up!) Happy planning!! 🙂 Reply Join the conversation Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.
