These are the registry truths we hold self-evident: No one needs a registry and you don't need a registry full of physical objects. But for those of us who DO want to do a wedding registry, you might be stumped for ideas about what to add. Never fear! There's no need to go into a store and pick up a digital scanner… we gotchoo.

Today, I'm going to look at 10 offbeat and useful things to add to your registry. Some of them are just straight-up weird (rainbow unicorn mugs, anyone?), some of them are weirdly useful, and some of them are both!

(Pro tip: set up a universal registry on Amazon to immediately add these things to YOUR registry.)

OFFBEAT: Matching “Hello is it me you're cooking for?” aprons

I guess you could say a pair of Nerf guns are weirdly useful, because you need an effective way to get out some of that newlywed stress. Expressing emotions through Nerf battles is healthy, and healthy is useful! But mostly we're just going to say they're wonderfully weird.

USEFUL: Candy-colored mixer

Yes, the KitchenAid mixer is the quintessential useful registry item… but who says you have to go for a standard color? I like this bright orange version of the classic.

WEIRD: Enormous LEGO set

What's the best answer to “how's married life?” Why of course it's, “We made great progress on our 996-piece enormous LEGO castle set you gave us.”

USEFUL: Deep sea discovery shower curtain

You all know how much we love octopodes and nautical weddings, and so this shower curtain hits several sweet spots for us. Plus, it's super useful and something you'll see every day.

Comments on 10 offbeat and useful things to add to your wedding registry

  1. We registered for items we wanted for our backcountry habits like sleeping bags, headlamps, and other hiking necessities.

My favorite part is that, four years later, I have friends and relatives who have no interest in camping or being outdoors whatsoever but they ask about our trips now.

My childhood friend’s parents bought us a butt pad (sleeping pad) and now they always ask me if I’m sleeping well when we’re backpacking.

Our odd registry turned into an endless source of conversation that is going strong four years later! And I really appreciate having nicer gear when it would have taken several years four me to round it all up otherwise.

  2. I used to have almost that exact Lego castle when I was a kid and loved it! My favourite was the glow-in-the-dark ghost it came with. Totally nostalgic now 🙂

  3. The floating Bluetooth speaker is the speaker in a million. The floating feature is just breath taking. I also loved 996-piece enormous LEGO castle set and Poler 2-person tent. The polar tent indeed is a romantic gift for a summer trip.
