Wedding porn: Vegetable wedding centerpieces

July 16th, 2007 · Posted by Ariel

brussels sprout and asparagus centerpieceYay for Riona (of Godawful Wedding Crap fame) and her gorgeous veggie-rich centerpieces. This one features brussels sprout and asparagus, but she also had peppers and radishes as part of her floral centerpieces at her 2006 wedding.

What I want to know is whether guests started nibbling on the centerpieces.

Wedding porn: Yet another tattooed bride

July 12th, 2007 · Posted by Ariel

07-0609 Lang 9Wow, look at how that dress perfectly frames the bride’s gorgeous backwork! Simply stunning.

And I love the interplay between the bride’s bluntly cut black bob and the white butterfly she’s got pinned in her hair.

And something about the groom’s boyish face combined with the bride’s seductive pose … it’s all so sweet and dirty at the same time.

(Thanks to Ryan Flood from FS Weddings for the photo!)

Vendors & shopping, Wedding porn: Fiona’s Fancy Pony Land dress

July 12th, 2007 · Posted by Ariel

Fancy pony dressAnother gorgeous wedding dress from Fancy Pony Land, this one worn by Fiona, a dancer from New Mexico.

I’m just madly in love with Fancy Pony Land’s stuff — did you see Lorna and Fancy Pony in the current issue of ReadyMade? Yes I’m biased, but Lorna’s custom made wedding dresses are really something else. They’re definitely not cheap, but they’re gorgeous.

Here’s another shot of Fiona in her dress.

(Thanks to Lorna and Fiona for sharing the photos!)

Bride profiles: Elly’s Ellensburg Wedding

July 11th, 2007 · Posted by Ariel

Elly & JustinThe offbeat bride: Elly, student

My offbeat groom: Justin, art guy

Location & date of wedding: May 5 2007 at a family ranch in Ellensburg, WA (middle of nowhere, just about)

What made our wedding offbeat: Ways we were odd: wrote our own very naturalistic vows, made and/or altered a lot of the small details, bought the dress (and many other bits) on ebay, did a ‘formal’ ceremony in barefeet. Yes, I think we scared the crap out of some people, including the neighbors. We each had three rings. That was probably the most expensive part beyond the Canadian photographer!

Wedding porn: Inspiring queer wedding in Atlanta

June 29th, 2007 · Posted by Ariel

weddin2.jpgHoly hell. My brain almost exploded from the gorgeousness and sheer amazatude of Aly and Elroi’s stunning wedding in Atlanta. Let’s start with their wedsite, which has one of my favorite wedding party pages of all time. The descriptions are hilarious and I love the ushers’ hand signal discussion.

Then there’s the wedding photography, which was done by Our Labor and Love and must have cost a fortune because it’s stunning. Sadly, the online gallery is built from flash, so I can’t directly link to individual photos, but go look at them all and check out the bridesmaids’ hair (love the feathers!) and the amazing portraits of the couple, and the ceremony photos and and and … oh my god.

Just spend a while looking at all the pictures — they’ll take a while to load because the galleries are huge. You’ll be inspired by Aly’s handmade blue dress, and the bad-ass wedding party, Elroi’s smile, and the officiant, and the bird-topped cake that matches the bride’s dress, the vegetarian menu, and and and…! Just go. Just go look. It’s one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever seen, gay or straight.

Also, check out Aly’s write-up on Kvetch. I got all misty. And then there’s this article about the whole shebang, which was documented by a television crew for a reality show on Logo.

Wedding porn: Fern wedding bouquet

June 28th, 2007 · Posted by Ariel

02I love this bride’s bouquet — she had a forest wedding, and I think it’s awesome that she chose to make a bouquet from the natural flora in the area. It really binds the event to the location, is super low-impact and eco-friendly (no pesticides!), budget-conscious, and in this case made for a gorgeous casual bouquet full of fern fronds and wildflowers.

(Thanks to Organic Photo for the photo!)

weddin.jpgThe offbeat bride: Jen Martensen, Interactive Project Manager

My offbeat groom: Kevin Martensen, Research Project Director

Location & date of wedding: The Great Hall of Cafe Brauer, Chicago, IL June 26, 2005

What made our wedding offbeat: We planned our wedding as one big party that just happened to be kicked off by our ceremony. I wore mini battery-powered Christmas lights in my hair instead of a veil. My bridesmaid, maid of honor and I all have (and displayed) tattoos. My husband walked down the aisle to Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” and I walked to “If You Want My Love” by Cheap Trick. Halfway down the aisle my maid of honor (a huge Cheap Trick fan) threw her arms up in the air and rocked out the rest of the way to the “altar,” which cracked me up and broke a lot of my nervous tension.
