Announcing the birth of our sister site: Offbeat Mama!

I recently featured a photo of a bride named Heather wearing her black wedding dress, and a commenter suggested interviewing her. Always one to oblige my readers, I tracked down Heather on Myspace, and fired away a few questions about what it was really like to wear a black wedding dress.

What made you decided on a black dress?
I'd originally bought a white dress about a year before the wedding, but every time I tried it on I didn’t feel like me and I was uncomfortable.

About three weeks before the wedding I was having breakfast with some friends explaining how I felt and I said "Why can't I wear a black dress?"

I wasn’t really considering it but they said, "You can do whatever you want."

That got me thinking, so I went to offbeatbride.com and found other brides in not only black but red, purple, and every other color imaginable.

I can't decide which aspects of Aerin's awesome outfit to focus on…

The elegant and sleek slate-colored dress from The English Department?

The fabulous fingerless gloves with the little button details on the wrist?

The amazing puffy shrug she pulled on after the ceremony?

The whole thing manages to be impeccably elegant while also playful and distinctly Portlandish. :)

I love how her black dress with white sash exactly matches his black suit with white tie.

Not only were there a lot of Converse All-Stars worn at this wedding, but they got married by a monk wearing sneakers.

Lots more photos over here!

I've been waiting to see if the much-discussed black wedding dress trend would actually come to fruition this year.

I mean sure, there have always been fabulous gothic brides who wear black, but rumor had it this was going to be the year that ladies other than my Brides Of The Night broke out the black dresses.

…And it looks like it's finally coming to pass.
