Don’t be ashamed. Wedding stories and pictures are like porn for those planning their own nuptials. So turn down the lights, put on some sexy music, and feast your eyes on these fully-clothed offbeat brides and their inspirational weddings.

we sing moreThose of you who’ve read the book know all about Jen Moon, the Seattle bride who’s wedding was actually a full-fledged musical performance back in 2002.

Well, finally (FINALLY) Wedding! The Musical is online for your viewing pleasure — and trust me, you’ll want to watch it all. From Jen’s entrance via trapeze to the moment when they shoot the bouquet out of a canon, the whole wedding’s fucking awesome.

So go! Watch!

Oh hai. I can haz hottie groomsmen breakdancing at reception, plz?

I wish we could have seen the bride break out HER moves, since the bride and groom are both professional dancers. Check out Steelo & Penelope’s wedding shots from Scott Robert Photography over here. I especially love this shot of the groom and his b-boy groomsmen:

I’m all a-twitter over the amazing photos and stories from the wedding of two members of the Offbeat Bride DC Wedding Co-op.

…The bride had a sword!

…The groom wooed her with a bowl of brownies he baked that morning!

They did all their flowers themselves!

…The bride’s entrance was one of the most dramatically beautiful I’ve ever seen.

…The location (Adelphi Mill) was insanely gorgeous!

Basically, you should just go read the groom’s incredibly sweet post about the wedding. I’m going to go lose myself in the photos again, myself…

The offbeat bride: Lea Vendetta, Tattooist/Artist

Her offbeat partner: Dave “Bastard” Archer, Tattooist

Location & date of wedding: Smathers Beach, Key West, Florida. April 1st 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: We got married in 1995 at the courthouse with no ceremony and no pictures. It was just the two of us, we were broke, and it was lame. Our 13th anniversary was coming up and I wanted to do something to finally be able to remember our wedding as a fabulous real wedding day! Of course we decided to do something 2 weeks before, so we improvised and everything ended up working perfectly! …like it was meant to be…

I’ve been waiting to see if the much-discussed black wedding dress trend would actually come to fruition this year.

I mean sure, there have always been fabulous gothic brides who wear black, but rumor had it this was going to be the year that ladies other than my Brides Of The Night broke out the black dresses.

…And it looks like it’s finally coming to pass.

(Thanks to chris_kisela for the photo!)

IMG_5135_smallTwo of my favorite offbeat trends in one gorgeous photo.

Pam opted not to have a veil, going instead for a fabulous feather/bead fascinator from the UK.

And look at that back work — gorgeousness. I’m also a big fan of the eyeshadow.

Lots more photos from this WOW-inspired wedding over here.

Swoon. Purple dress. Black corset. Pink hair. Purple boots. Black veil. Jeweled crown. I don’t know anything about this bride other than that her name is Tanya and she’s from the UK and I love her.

A very special thanks to analogueandy for sharing the photos with the Offbeat Bride pool on Flickr! Note: you’ll need to be a member of the group and logged into Flickr to see the photos I link to in this post.

Wedding porn: All-Star wedding

April 29th, 2008

The offbeat bride: Kristen / Retail Manager, but trying to get out

Her offbeat groom: Todd / Production Assistant

Location & date of wedding: Miami University Campus, Oxford, OH. Oct. 13, 2007

What made our wedding offbeat: It started with Todd proposing without a ring, saying we should pick one out/design it together. And that began the trend for the whole wedding, a DIY eco-friendly nuptials that really told all our guests who we are.

The rings

Looking at this photo from Rachel & Ali’s recent Persian wedding in San Francisco made me drooly — look at that amazing spread of food in front of them! Om nom nom nom… Really, all the photos from their wedding are amazing — clearly, they had some talented guests! I’m especially fond of this one from their Chinatown stroll, and Rachel’s fab birdcage veil.

Wedding porn: Butterfly cupcakes

April 10th, 2008

Marriage au Cirque wedding cupcakesIf you’re looking for a little cupcake inspiration, you must head over here to a photoset dedicated to Marriage au Cirque wedding cupcakes. I love the colors … the berries … and of course the butterflies!

(Thanks to Mevrouw Cupcake for the photo!)

The offbeat bride: Carissa, hairstylist/sometime burlesque dancer

Her offbeat partner: Adam, casino chump and art student

Location & date of wedding: Riverside, CA @ Cafe Sevilla. March 29, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: We tried to go DIY with all we could. I have a love of all things antique so I went with a birdcage theme — I had them for centerpieces, on the DIY invites, I wore a birdcage veil, etc. I opted out of flowers galore and only got some for myself, the girls, and the guys wore single daisies. We had cupcakes, and no formal dinner. I let my girls wear what they wanted, I just said I’d prefer black. I walked my mother and grandfather down the aisle (to Cat Power’s “sea of love!”) to their seats.

Wedding porn: Chandelier trend

April 7th, 2008

PinkChandeliers are showing up in indie weddings lately — and I don’t just mean literally. I mean sure, there was this amazing (and amazingly expensive) display from photographer Elizabeth Messina’s wedding. I also love these shots of chandeliers in trees.

But chandeliers are also showing up on invites, like the handmade ones here the left from Mary Katherine, these lovely invites from Etsy seller EnfinLaVoila, and these invites from Wedding Paper Divas.

I think the real value in a fancy-ass chandelier comes from the contrast of all that frou-frou-ness in an unexpected environment, like this picture.
