Announcing the birth of our sister site: Offbeat Mama!

The average American wedding costs over $25,000. I encourage brides to find innovative, thoughtful ways to reduce their bridal budgets, and if you do choose to spend money, spend it on independent vendors and thoughtfully-made merch like the stuff below…

jeremy-harris-photography
Known for his rock 'n' roll work, Jeremy Harris is New York-based wedding photographer who's been featured in magazines such as Rolling Stone, SPIN, and the UK mag Kerrang.

jeremy-harrisSo wait, why does a guy who photographs rock stars for Rolling Stone want to shoot your wedding? "Unlike the editorial and ad shoots which only satisfy the art director for a moment," Jeremy told me, "The weddings I shoot make people happy for a lifetime … I enjoy creating something that will be truly cherished!"

The advantage of working with a photographer accustomed to shooting musicians for magazines is that you get an editorial and photojournalistic style … and BONUS: you get treated like a rock star.

Oh and don't let the fact that Jeremy's based in New York fool you! He works frequently in the Bay Area and Los Angeles and, he says with a wicked little smile, "…I have a valid passport."

To feast your eyes on more of Jeremy's work, head to his website, or his blog.

Y'all remember Whitney Lee, Offbeat Bride's favorite Austin wedding photographer? Well, she's back again with more wedding porn, this time from Stephanie & Kevin's recent wedding.

stephanie-and-kevin-1755Stephanie says: I guess the main thing that made our wedding offbeat was that we tried to do things because we liked them or because they were important to us, rather than doing things because they're just always done at weddings.

We had a "First Rock Band" rather than a first dance. This was because we love Rock Band and we do not love to dance. It's definitely one of my best memories of the night; my husband on guitar, me on the drums, and all our friends and family surrounding us and belting out "Living on a Prayer." Exuberance all around. It was awesome.

How can you resist these green heels with the hearts on the bottoms from OBT member LucyLu's full-color March wedding in Oregon?
I heart these shoes!
These heels are called "Wicked" by Luichiny. The hearts on the soles make me wet my pants a little. I declare these my favorite shoes of the 2009 season.

But the pee-inducing shoes were just the tip of the iceberg on style from this wedding … the photos from Jessica Watson Photography are like sticking a designer lollipop in your eye-ball. So much color and sweetness and style!

Now, if those aren't quite your style of green wedding shoes … check these out:

OBT member Jessica made these deer cake toppers that are so adorable they make me want to puke, in a good way.

Jessica writes, "The one with the excess flowers is "me" and the one with the top hat is my darling FW, in case it wasn't obvious. ;) It even turned out that her's is a teensy taller than mine, just like real life. hehe."

Oh those tiny little flowers just kill me.

Offbeat Bride!I've been meaning to put together a reading list of OBB-approved books for ages, and last weekend I finally got off my butt to make it happen.

I'm featuring books that Offbeat Bride readers love and have reviewed on the OBT … there are a few that absolutely didn't make the cut because readers consistently didn't like them (*cough*Anti-Bride*cough*) but if there's a book you think I missed on the list, leave a comment here with your review and I'll try to get it added!
