The average American wedding costs over $25,000 — which is completely insane. I encourage brides to find innovative, thoughtful ways to reduce their bridal budgets, and if you do choose to spend money, spend it on independent vendors and thoughtfully-made merch.
You all remember Megan, aka Princess Lasertron, right? You’ve seen her on obb.com before … She of the pink polkadot wedding dress? She of the magenta crinoline? She of the magical felt-and-button wedding bouquet?
If you were drooling specifically over the button bouquet, you are in luck because Princess Lasertron makes them for a living. Well, bouquets along with boutonnieres, barrettes, and tons of other felty, buttony, vintage magic. Based in Omaha, Nebraska, Megan says “I spend a LOT of time searching for vintage materials to make my products. Every bouquet features mostly vintage buttons and other antique findings like ribbon, seam binding, thread, and felt. (But nothing dull or dingey!)”
You can buy her goods on Etsy at princesslasertron.etsy.com, read more about her process on princesslasertron.com and drown in button bouquet wedding porn on her Flickr photostream.

Whitney Lee is a wedding photographer (and artist who does kitschy latch-hook rugs) in Austin, TX who is on the hunt for offbeat clients. She explains, “I love the non-traditional and the traditional-with-a-purpose. My favorite is to work with self-confident couples who view the wedding experience as an expression of themselves and their relationship.”
Whitney’s got a fabulous photo blog (I think this post is my favorite!) and is so committed to wooing offbeat couples that she’s offering a 10% discount to new clients who mention they found her on offbeatbride.com. Get in touch with Whitney Lee to make the magic happen!
Offbeat Brides in Indiana, your time has finally come! If you’re looking for a Indianapolis wedding photographer who’s friendly to the ways of the non-trad bride (red dress? fairy wings? no problem!), J. Scott Photography is ready for you.
Run by Jamie and Brandy, a husband and wife team who played the theme to “The Odd Couple” at their own wedding, J. Scott Photography’s shots clearly run towards the artist and lush.
Jamie has a fine arts degree, and you can see from their wedding photo gallery that he definitely brings that aesthetic eye to his wedding photography as well.

Arizona’s Themed Wedding Minister —
Reverend Crystal Lloyd is non-denominational ordained minister who specializes in officiating theme weddings, alternative faith ceremonies, custom wording and even sci-fi weddings!

A while back I ranted about how I think brides are best off having their wedding dresses custom made — you’ll get a better fit, exactly the design you want, and won’t have to suffer the attitudes and obscene prices of a bridal boutique.
There was some grumbling in the comments about “Ok, fine: but how do you find a custom dressmaker?” My best advice is start in your immediate circle and work your way out &mash; do you know any seamstresses or amazing sewers? Do any of your friends or family known any? If not, search online or in the Yellow Pages for someone locally. Being able to do fittings in person is a big bonus. If there’s no-one in town you like, then start looking online for seamstresses with styles you like who will work with you via email.
The ladies of the OBT came to the rescue with lots more tips on picking a custom dressmaker, as well as specific dressmaker recommendations:

Thanks to Manolo for the Brides for pointing out that Volcom makes some damn styley tuxedos for your trendy little groom.
Described as having a modern fit (Never Teh Bride nailed it when she said “slim and kind of slouchy”), you can see the suits in action right here. The jacket and pants are both available on Amazon, for about $170 for the set.
