The average American wedding costs over $25,000which is completely insane. I encourage brides to find innovative, thoughtful ways to reduce their bridal budgets, and if you do choose to spend money, spend it on independent vendors and thoughtfully-made merch.

Cami of Cami’s Paperie specializes in custom wedding invitations designs that have never been seen before — and will never be seen again.

“Once designed and printed, I’ll never re-create that design for anyone else again,” Cami explained to me, meaning that her invitations truly are one-of-a-kind.

Cami’s Paperie is offering a 10% discount to all shoppers who mention Offbeat Bride!

She also provides wedding invitation supplies for offbeat brides who want to go the DIY route with their invitations, noting that she can custom cut and score the bulk paper to almost any size.

And of course she does more than just wedding invitations — she’s got Save The Dates, place cards and table numbers, programs and menus, and all the other paper stuff you might need for your wedding.

IMG_6941 copySome of you may remember this cross-gendered wedding party I featured in March. Well, the wedding was shot by Amanda Brooks in Los Angeles, and it’s time you know a little bit more about her and saw more of her insanely stylish wedding photography.

Amanda specializes in retro and theme weddings, and brings a lot of journalist flair to her work.

See, she’s spent the last two years as the backstage photographer with Burlesque scenesters Tease-O-Rama, and so clearly she understands on a core level how to beautiful capture curvy, gorgeous women who are going for that classic, mid-century style.

You’ve just got to see more of these photos…

Offbeat Fashion, Shopping: Hot wedding boots

October 23rd, 2008 · Posted by Ariel

Tinywater Photography recently posted about Jocelyn & George’s Piedmont, California wedding … and it features a few of my favorite offbeat labels … a dress by Wai-Ching, and boots by Fluevog. In fact, I have these same boots in black, and those bitches are HAWT, and even more important for me: super comfortable.

(Budget note: I was able to find the boots for almost half-off a while back on Amazon … but it doesn’t look like they’re available any more.)

But Jocelyn & George’s wedding was about more than just fashion. The bride and groom are both avid birdwatchers, so the whole event was bird-themed including this shot of the bride and groom with their bird-watching binoculars. So cute!

To see more beautiful shots from Jocelyn & George’s beautiful bird wedding, head on over to the Tinywater Blog.

When I asked Katie about her amazing 1920s-style wedding headband, she reported that it was the work of Etsy seller Boring Sidney, who makes amazing little hats and headpieces of all sorts.

And if you’re looking for lots of vintage wedding inspiration, you must flip through Mario and Katie’s wedding pictures. He’s a magician, and she’s his assistant — so of course their wedding looked like this:

I’m totally all SQUEE-y over these custom offbeat illustrations from butterflieskiss.com.

Donna, the illustrator who runs butterflieskiss.com crafts custom images that you could use on save the dates, wedding invitations, thank you cards, wedding favors … or even wedsites.

Let me let you in on a little secret: I’m tempted to commission Donna’s illustrations for offbeatbride.com! I mean, does it get any more OBB than this lovely inked bride illustration?

Donna does illustrations catered to semi-traditional wedding invitations too, but she’s got amazing images perfectly catered to diverse offbeat brides needs including goth and circus-y/vaudeville brides, lesbian brides, bollywood brides, and even pregnant brides!

And if those wedding-y illustrations too tame for you, Donna has another line — donna-matrix.com, catering to racier images perfect for bachelorette party invites or heck: even your wedding invitation if you’re planning a fetishy wedding. (HOT!)

Donna’s offering 10% off on custom illustrations when you mention offbeatbride.comso get on that shit, ladies!

And who knows: next time I redesign, you might see some of Donna’s stuff in the header of offbeatbride.com…

Shopping: Prom dresses make daring wedding gowns

October 8th, 2008 · Posted by Ariel

I’m all for white dresses, red dresses, blue dresses, purple dresses, but ZOMG I actually gasped out loud when I saw this picture of Kelly Devoto’s fantastical colorful peacock-y wedding dress — which it turns out was actually designed to be a prom dress.

Seriously, it’s like a My Little Pony and Tinkerbell totally got it on nasty-style in a magical rhinestone shop and this dress was their sparkling bastard love child. And I mean that in the very best possible way! I’m totally in love.

I’ve got a detail shot of the bodice and bouquet below, along with the bride’s story of where she got the dress. I’m looking forward to telling you much, much more about this Los Angeles wedding some day in the future.
