Announcing the birth of our sister site: Offbeat Mama!

Sometimes I invite others to share their wedding wisdom on the offbeat blog. If you're a blogging bride or wedding blogger and you have something you'd like to share, lemme know!

OBT member "iLiveinmyLab" posted this great step-by-step on one of her wedding planning updates.

This is for those brides who want to know how to make one of the kick ass floral head wreaths that they sell at the Renaissance fairs without paying lots of money. I used to make these all the time but this shall be my first in about ten years. They can be customized in many different ways to be made in a larger style or a smaller style. They'd be great for flower girls (and if your flower girl has a favorite doll that wants to walk down the aisle too, you can make it using small rosebuds instead). For this one I'm going to start off with an easier variation of the floral head wreath.

Here is the list of supplies you need:

Remember Save the Dates with post-it notes? Well their creator, OBT member Grafxcowgirl (aka. Michele), is back with a new DIY wedding project that I love!

She created these customized match books for her wedding favors by simply purchasing cheap blank matchbooks, printing out her design on sticker paper, trimming and adhering, and voila! The result — these super hip matchbook wedding favors!

What do sentient fur-covered bipeds, native to the moon of Endor, have to do with weddings? Probably nothing, until OBT member Melissa designed these incredible accordion fold wedding invitations…

Ewoks & wedding rings! How can you not love it!? These just warmed my little Star Wars nerd heart. To read more about Melissa's invitations OBT member can check out her wedding planning update here.

And just because I love Star Wars, good photography and things that are sparkly, I'll leave you with this picture taken by Melissa…

Okay, so I can't even tell you how amazing I think these are. I actually had to go outside and take a freaking walk to calm down after I read the following wedding update posted by OBT member Julia

Our invitations were kept secret from EVERYONE. My parents, sister, friends, everyone. So it was a complete surprise when they showed up in mailboxes. We are both graphic designers but wanted to truly splurge on our invitations. We knew a lot of our invite list wouldn’t be able to make it. With the combination of a destination wedding, our family scattered across the country and the economy, we wanted to give all of our invitees something special even if they can’t be there to share the day with us. This was our biggest expense vs. what we could have spent but I feel like it's worth it.

Here's what the insides looked like. They were 3D images, so much cooler than what you can see here. The text was in captions along the top of the reel:

The handmade invitations and RSVP cards from OBT member Hurricane Me (aka. Kate) just blew me away. Here are the pictures and her explanation taken from her wedding planning update.

I sat around stressing out over what kind of image I wanted … I knew I wanted to do it myself but had no idea where to begin stylistically. But I finally buckled down and did the block print of the hands, and as soon as I lay the ink on I knew I had my design. I couldn't decide on a color. So I didn't.

I just put cardstock through the photocopy machine at Kinkos to make the text and the RSVP inserts, then cut the smaller block print stamps of bicycles and letters, and started stamping.
