Announcing the birth of our sister site: Offbeat Mama!

The Offbeat Bride Tribe (OBT) is the private online network for brides (and grooms!) inspired by offbeatbride.com. This category highlights the best of the OBT, with guest blogs from members, and roundups of OBT wedding inspiration.

What do sentient fur-covered bipeds, native to the moon of Endor, have to do with weddings? Probably nothing, until OBT member Melissa designed these incredible accordion fold wedding invitations…

Ewoks & wedding rings! How can you not love it!? These just warmed my little Star Wars nerd heart. To read more about Melissa's invitations OBT member can check out her wedding planning update here.

And just because I love Star Wars, good photography and things that are sparkly, I'll leave you with this picture taken by Melissa…

"A rock? These little bears are nuts."

Okay, so I can't even tell you how amazing I think these are. I actually had to go outside and take a freaking walk to calm down after I read the following wedding update posted by OBT member Julia

Our invitations were kept secret from EVERYONE. My parents, sister, friends, everyone. So it was a complete surprise when they showed up in mailboxes. We are both graphic designers but wanted to truly splurge on our invitations. We knew a lot of our invite list wouldn’t be able to make it. With the combination of a destination wedding, our family scattered across the country and the economy, we wanted to give all of our invitees something special even if they can’t be there to share the day with us. This was our biggest expense vs. what we could have spent but I feel like it's worth it.

Here's what the insides looked like. They were 3D images, so much cooler than what you can see here. The text was in captions along the top of the reel:

The handmade invitations and RSVP cards from OBT member Hurricane Me (aka. Kate) just blew me away. Here are the pictures and her explanation taken from her wedding planning update.

I sat around stressing out over what kind of image I wanted … I knew I wanted to do it myself but had no idea where to begin stylistically. But I finally buckled down and did the block print of the hands, and as soon as I lay the ink on I knew I had my design. I couldn't decide on a color. So I didn't.

I just put cardstock through the photocopy machine at Kinkos to make the text and the RSVP inserts, then cut the smaller block print stamps of bicycles and letters, and started stamping.

What happens when a crafty offbeat bride doesn't like cake but doesn't want to miss out on the aesthetics that a "wedding pie" just doesn't quite provide?

She crochets one…

Wow. OBT member Corinne is responsible for this amazing wedding creation (as well as the fabulous crocheted flower embellished bouquet from last week). This crocheted cake has all the beauty and drama of an offbeat wedding cake without all the expense and the possibility of cake in the face.

(OBT members can see an even larger version of the photo here.)

OBT member Corinne inundated the tribe with some of the fabulous DIY projects that she and her fiance have been making for their Alice in Wonderland themed wedding. OBT members can see all of the projects by checking out her wedding update here.

But we were really delighted by her twist on on Naomi's ornament/lights bouquet. Corinne made it her own by adding some awesome crocheted flowers to the mix!
