Website glitches, technical updates, and other nerd-associated news for the ladies who love to get their geek on.

Me at BlogherI’m at the BlogHer conference in Chicago for the weekend. I’m not writing about it much here because I’m guessing that blog geekery isn’t especially of interest to offbeat brides (I’ll have a new bride profile for you tomorrow, ladies!), but if you want to read about my geeky adventures in Chicago, head on over to my personal blog Electrolicious.

Oh and I’ve got a panel on Saturday morning! I’m sitting on the “From Book to Blog and Back Again” panel Saturday at 10:30. We’re going to talk about bloggers becoming authors, authors becoming bloggers, and bloggers becoming authors and then going back to blogging because they like it better. (Uh, that would be me, I think.)

It’s wedding season, which means I’m getting tons of great submissions for Bride Profiles, and I’m building up a bit of a backlog. For all of you who’ve submitted profiles that you haven’t seen yet, don’t worry — I’ve got about three months of backlog, so it’s taking me a while to get through all of them.

If you’re eager to share your wedding with offbeatbride.com readers, be sure to add your shots to the Flickr pool! Then everyone can see your wedding porn right away, even if it takes me a while to get your profile up.

Geeky stuff: Share this!

June 28th, 2007

I’ve added a new geeky feature on the site — now at the bottom of feature posts, you’ll find a little green icon and a “Share this post” link. When you click it, you can easily email the post to a friend/fiance/mother in law, etc, or (if you’re a webfiend like me) you can save the post to any number of social linking sites like del.icio.us, Digg, or Technorati.

You might notice that Linkage posts (they’re the little posts that are just a couple lines with a green bullet at the beginning) don’t have the “Share this” link — it’s in hiding. Just click little comment icon at the end of the post, and you’ll be taken to the page with the Share this link.

Anyway, hope this makes it easier to use and share the site. I’m a geek at heart, and little tools like this make me very happy! I guess as long as we’re talking geek, now would be a good time to open the floor to any technical issues, questions, requests, etc. that you have about offbeatbride.com. Anyone?

Geeky stuff: Offbeat Advertising

June 14th, 2007

Putting advertising on this website wasn’t a decision I took lightly, and I figured I’d explain myself for those who are interested. And so, you get a numbered list! Isn’t this fun?

Uh, I only just now noticed that somehow offbeatbride.com didn’t have a search feature! Der. There’s now a nice li’l search box over there in the sidebar, under the gallery. Now you can find all sorts of things on the website like vows, diy, and wedding dresses.

Geeky stuff: LiveJournal feed

January 31st, 2007

img_rss.gifIf you’re an LJ user, you can now add the Offbeat Bride syndication feed to your friends page. (Special thanks to Jamie T for setting this up!) If you use other services to read RSS/feeds, I’ve got tons of options for you …

Geeky stuff: Offbeat MySpace

January 25th, 2007

Oh, of course Offbeat Bride is on MySpace! Aren’t you? Even if you hate it, you’re drawn to it like a moth drawn to a blinking, midi-playing, animated-background flame. My favorite MySpace comments ever, from a blog comment thread about MySpace’s awful usability and design:

i couldn’t disagree more, myspace’s design is fine. maybe your to stupid to be using the net in the first place … atleast myspace has a bit more color then this BLOG….the creator of this blog MUST be old.

… In other words, if MySpace is too ugly, perhaps “your to old.” Oh, it makes me laugh and cry at the same time. Anyway, if you use MySpace, consider adding the book to your friends list!
