The offbeat bride: Han, Safari Company

Her offbeat partner: Woody, Director of Safari Company

Location & date of wedding: Talyllyn Railway (for ceremony) and Abergynolwyn Station and Teepee Village (for reception) north of Machynlleth in mid Wales on January 24th, 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: My man loves his steam trains and the countryside, and I love anything not run-of-the-mill. We live in Africa and run a safari company, where it is hot and steamy all the time, so we really wanted a winter wedding in rainy wet Wales!

How kick-ass are these bridesmaids in their coordinated-but-not-matching boots? And the groomsmen all wore Vans. Too cute! For lots more shots from Hope & Adam's wedding, head on over to Matthew Morgan Photography.

(And thanks to Serena for bringing these photos to my attention!)

I'm an Offbeat Bride for Halloween! After working on offbeatbride.com for almost two years now (and Offbeat Bride the book for another year before that!) I've started to see some definite trends in offbeat bride styles.

I mean yes: we're all doing our own thang, but there are definitely elements that seem to pop up repeatedly in offbeat weddings.

To celebrate this, I decided that this Halloween I would dress up as, well, YOU! I wanted to see how many offbeat bride trends I could pack into one outfit.

No one in Seattle will get this costume at all — "goth drag queen?" "weird mary poppins?" — but I don't care. I did it for y'all because I love your style.

SO, how many offbeat trends can you see in these shots? We'll start easy: Red wedding dress? Check. Actually a prom dress? Check. Purchased off eBay? Check!

Oh, but there's SO much more

Tinywater Photography recently posted about Jocelyn & George's Piedmont, California wedding … and it features a few of my favorite offbeat labels … a dress by Wai-Ching, and boots by Fluevog. In fact, I have these same boots in black, and those bitches are HAWT, and even more important for me: super comfortable.

(Budget note: I was able to find the boots for almost half-off a while back on Amazon … but it doesn't look like they're available any more.)

But Jocelyn & George's wedding was about more than just fashion. The bride and groom are both avid birdwatchers, so the whole event was bird-themed including this shot of the bride and groom with their bird-watching binoculars. So cute!

To see more beautiful shots from Jocelyn & George's beautiful bird wedding, head on over to the Tinywater Blog.

Swoon. Purple dress. Black corset. Pink hair. Purple boots. Black veil. Jeweled crown. I don't know anything about this bride other than that her name is Tanya and she's from the UK and I love her.

A very special thanks to analogueandy for sharing the photos with the Offbeat Bride pool on Flickr! Note: you'll need to be a member of the group and logged into Flickr to see the photos I link to in this post.
