What made our wedding offbeat: One of the biggest things that made our wedding offbeat was that it was on a Friday the 13th. And our colors reflected that: orange, black, purple, and white. We tried to do everything as cheap as possible. I bought most of our decorations, supplies, etc. on Ebay. We decorated everything ourselves. I made my very own nearly flowerless bouquet. We didn't use tradition music for the ceremony. Oh, and all of my bridesmaids were men.

What made our wedding offbeat: With a non-existent budget and a dream to just be married in our own way we created our own little world for a day.

The Offbeat Bride: Shannon, theater actress/web site manager

My Offbeat Partner: Brandon, improv actor/managing director

Location & date of wedding: Lake Forest Park Civic Club on Lake Washington in Seattle, WA (we're not members, anyone can rent it) — 5/4/2008

What made our wedding offbeat: Our wedding was completely ours. We ran the thing ourselves and enlisted the generous help of talented friends and family to design our invites, print them, set-up, DJ, officiate, work the bar, and make appetizers.

We decided early on to eliminate certain expensive sources of stress to keep the budget and the stress as low as possible. We planned the wedding for about 4-5 months after the engagement to save ourselves a year of stress. Within a few weeks, we'd chosen an inexpensive (under $1K), little-heard-of venue north of Seattle. It's in a lovely spot on the lake but because the building is old 1960's utilitarian, so it's not used often for weddings. We decided the space was too small for a wedding party and we didn't want to deal with choosing dresses and tuxes and favors and coordinating the people (this ended up being our most controversial decision).

The Offbeat Bride: Stori, Elementary School Counselor

My Offbeat Partner: Tausha, Peet's Coffee & Tea Assistant Manager

Location & date of wedding: Boundary Bay Brewery Beer Garden, Bellingham, WA — 10.11.2008

What made our wedding offbeat: We wanted an event that was inviting to everyone we loved (who didn't really know each other), and we really didn't want to waste money on things like table cloths, vases, candle holders, place holders, etc. So, with a two month time frame, we found everything we needed at garage and estate sales all over Portland. Even our officiant was gratefully recycled from good friends wedding, as well as our shoes, center pieces, decorations, some art auction pieces, hair piece, vow ideas, one bride's outfit, etc.

The offbeat bride: Chastidy, barista

Her offbeat partner: Rick aka "Mo," cd slinger

Location & date of wedding: Lake Sacagewea, Longview WA – Aug. 16th 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: I wanted my wedding to be inspired a bit by the retro lifestyle I love so much, a bit by polka dots because I love them so, and a lot by us! And I think it turned out fabulous. We all adorned classic chucks, my pug Munster was my ring bearer, my girls danced down the aisle to a What a Wonderful World cover by the one and only Joey Ramone and, well, we played rock paper scissor to determine who had to say those scary vows first. ;) I think my conservative family was a bit thrown by our brightly colored hair, punk rock music, and silly antics but, hey, that's us!
