Announcing the birth of our sister site: Offbeat Mama!

Inspired by Princess Lasertron (because really, who isn't?) I've decided to start doing a semi-regular feature where I answer reader questions. Not, like, wedding advice questions. But questions about other stuff — the site, the world, whatever.

Here are the first batch of questions, which came in via Offbeat Bride's Facebook page:

At OBB, we're all about honoring the personally meaningful, no matter how weird or "tacky" :) But I bet you've heard about some pretty off-the-wall wedding choices…what are the strangest things you've come across in your OBB travels? -Ariel H.

Ha! I love this question. I've definitely seen some things that aren't my personal aesthetics, that's for sure…

In the glorious Offbeat Bride community, there are loads of different kinds of people into loads of different things. You name it, we got it! From tattooed rockabillies to tight-panted hipsters to earth-lovin' hippies and every idiosyncratic style (lifestyle?) in between. One aspect of the Offbeat Bride army, if you will, that we often don't associate with being particularly offbeat and is definitely under-represented on OffbeatBride.com are military brides. Yeah, I said it… military brides can be offbeat too!

On the Offbeat Bride social network, Offbeat Bride Tribe, there is a group devoted entirely to brides and their partners who have served or are serving in the armed forces, police force or firefighting arena. There's a little sumpin' sumpin' about a man or woman in uniform!

The offbeat bride: Julie Ke, Sign Artist

Her offbeat partner: Jonny, Chef

Location & date of wedding: Forest House Lodge in Foresthill, CA on October 10th, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: I have never been the "wedding planning" kind of girl, and never thought too much about weddings until I met my Jonny Boy. We are both pretty offbeat in our daily lives, so it only made sense that we should plan a wedding that truly reflected our personalities.

Some of you may remember Jon here from a previous post on Offbeat Bride, and you'll be seeing more of his and Julie's wedding later this week, but I just had to give this stylin' groom a post all his own. Because really: this outfit is fucking FAB.

Look at that brocaded jacket with tails!

The hat!

The impeccable specs!

The vest!

The boots!

The ascot! For god sake, look at the ascot!

The best part is that the mother of the bride made parts of the outfit.

But really, the styley-assed groom is just the tip of the iceburg for this Julie & Jon's wedding. You can see a few gorgeous pictures over on the Tinywater Photography blog, and we'll have a full profile of this wedding coming up later this week!

Tinywater Photography recently posted about Jocelyn & George's Piedmont, California wedding … and it features a few of my favorite offbeat labels … a dress by Wai-Ching, and boots by Fluevog. In fact, I have these same boots in black, and those bitches are HAWT, and even more important for me: super comfortable.

(Budget note: I was able to find the boots for almost half-off a while back on Amazon … but it doesn't look like they're available any more.)

But Jocelyn & George's wedding was about more than just fashion. The bride and groom are both avid birdwatchers, so the whole event was bird-themed including this shot of the bride and groom with their bird-watching binoculars. So cute!

To see more beautiful shots from Jocelyn & George's beautiful bird wedding, head on over to the Tinywater Blog.
