Continuing in the spirit of superhero week here at Offbeat Bride, tag along with us to the Santa Barbara Zoo. Bridget and Sam got married there earlier this spring surrounded by subtle hints of superherodom: Batman cufflinks, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle bow tie, the 11th Doctor and Amy Pond cake toppers… wait, what's that? The Doctor isn't a superhero? He is in my heart, okay, let me have my little pleasures, IT TOTALLY COUNTS.
This is Offbeat Bride's archive of superhero posts.
It's a bird, it's a plane… it's Offbeat Bride's comic book-clad and caped superhero theme week! Get in the telephone booth and change into your wedding-gawking superhero tights — you're in for crime-fighting fun. Today we've got an offbeat lite celebration of all things vintage comic books. Get in the telephone booth and change into your wedding-gawking superhero tights — you're in for crime-fighting fun. Today we're looking at two retro and nerdy birds who combined these two loves into a kick-ass party. Think DIY flowers, a classic car, and a life-size Spider-Man and Mary Jane cut-out! Oh, and just wait until you see the daddy/daughter first look.
I can hear your squeals from here. I can hear them as I'm writing this because this wedding IS JUST THAT AWESOME. What an addition to Offbeat Bride superhero week! Reinesha and Devan were absolutely on point as Wonder Woman and Superman for their Arizona wedding. The cape. The Superman wedding socks. The Wonder Woman wedding socks. The tiara. The red, blue, and yellow corset ties. The coordinating superhero eye makeup and nail art. The general bad-assitude oozing from every photo. Do they not look like they are having the best time in all the world?

Today's wedding in a fab venue brings us comic book paper flowers, '40s-style superhero illustrations, and movie references all over the place.
If you could dream up a geeky celebration of love and life set in a garden, you'd probably come close to the wedding that Olivia and James had at The Old Rectory Bed and Breakfast in Great Malvern (United Kingdom). These guys had two cakes, one with a Lego Stargate scenario on top and the other was a TARDIS), Olivia wore white Batman-adorned Converse, guests were assigned to a spaceship-labeled table for dinner, and Olivia also carried a TARDIS and a Golden Snitch as her good luck charms. AND our very own Catherine designed Olivia's dragon engagement ring!
Clapperboards, film rolls, and superheroes, oh my! It must be a movie-themed wedding… this time in Brazil! The couple planned to head off to London the day after the wedding, so it was a whole lot of packing and planning to make this all come together in time. And we think you'll love the adorable moments during the ceremony. Here's a hint: the groom may have futzed up rock-paper-scissors!
Shopping for wedding invitations and getting frustrated by heteronormative overload? We've been contacted by a lot of readers who want to know about vendors that give LGBT couples as many invitation options as straight couples. That's why I'm excited about our newest sponsor Queer Getting Married — a wedding stationery company that provides invitations, save the dates, and more.

BAM! POW! ZAP! This adorable pair of geek boys wanted to represent Batman, but they like him for different reasons: the heroism and the villains. So they embraced the clash and celebrated with a HEROES vs. VILLAINS cocktail bash! With a huge wedding party representing both sides, an epic Mr. Freeze cake, custom Batman Chucks, amazing illustrations and paintings as decor, old timey sound effects ceremony signs, and a secret officiant reveal, this is a do-not-miss superhero-mad wedding.
Yarn ball centerpieces, lots of pops of color, superhero Pez dispensers, and wedding-themed comic covers — this is going to be a superhero win! Add in the awesome trolley transport, gorgeous beach setting, and retro style, and you'll be done for. Oh, and you'll never guess what happened with the reception photos! A talented guest was the last-minute save.
