The Offbeat Bride: Alison

Her offbeat partner: Heather

Location & date of wedding: The Inn at the Lambertville Station, Lambertville NJ — 9/27/09

What made our wedding offbeat: The fact that the bride to groom ratio at this wedding was 2:0 made it kinda offbeat. Though, all gayness aside, we went all-out and DIYed everything about this wedding. You name it, we made it.

Other than that it was pretty "typical," white dress, table numbers, flowers, reception… Oh well, there were a few other offbeat things. First and foremost, when it came to the music Heather said, "I want it to sound like we're at a cheesey 80's prom!" I said, "Yes! Lets do it!" So the 19th century train station was jammin' with sweet 80's tunes the whole night.

The Offbeat Bride: Rykie (say it like "Rikki") – 20-something actor-type

Her Offbeat Partner: Chris – 20-something manager of a Blockbuster

Location & date of wedding: Central Presbyterian Church, Atlanta GA; College Park Woman's Club, Atlanta, GA — February 20, 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: We tried not to get too wrapped up in the formality of the affair; we just got dressed up and had a big party with our nearest and dearest. There were some traditions we liked and some we didn't. Those we liked, we used — those we didn't we changed or scrapped.

The Offbeat Bride: Jess, Experiential Educator

Her Offbeat Partner: Sean, Organic Foods Data King

Location & date of wedding: Artists for Humanity, South Boston, MA — May 2, 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: I am a Jewish educator and my husband is of Irish descent and was raised in the Catholic Faith. We wanted to honor and celebrate our heritage, while at the same time express our free thinking personalities. We had a Jewish Lay Leader and a family friend who is a former Pastor co-officiate our service, which we wrote ourselves, but honored every tradition that we could.

Yes, we've seen a lot of suits and converse on the gentlemen. But what about a stylin' suit and a sweet pair of Pumas? Here's a shot of a friend of mine rocking a Hugo Boss suit and a fly pair of sneakers. The look's a bit less punk, a bit more Justin Timberlake. And ladies, I LOVE JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE. If Andreas and I were ever to get remarried, I would probably strongly encourage him to dress up like JT.

My comedian/pundit friend Baratunde and his singer/songerwriter bride Mieka were married this summer in Lenox, MA. Baratunde told me, "It was one of the best days of my life … along with the day Obama won and the day I got my first Transformers action figure."

More about these two below, including why Mieka said Baratunde was the true "bride" of the two of them…

You may remember us featuring Topsy Turvy's amazing hats back in September… Topsy Turvy strikes again here with Katie's gorgeous top hat!

The offbeat bride: Katie, Education
Her offbeat partner: Forrest, Video Games

Location & date of wedding: Aboard the Hawaiian Chieftain in Ilwaco, WA – May 14th, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: We knew we wanted it on a ship and we knew what we wanted to wear. I wanted to wear some kind of Victorian BBC/literary adaptation gown, and Forrest wanted to wear the grey suit from the film "Bram Stoker's Dracula".

Thanks to Manolo for the Brides for pointing out that Volcom makes some damn styley tuxedos for your trendy little groom.

Described as having a modern fit (Never Teh Bride nailed it when she said "slim and kind of slouchy"), you can see the suits in action right here. The jacket and pants are both available on Amazon, for about $170 for the set.
