simple wedding

Of course “simple” is relative, but these weddings are generally low-key, minimal, and less about decor and accessories. You may also want to check out our archive of small weddings, or our posts about elopement.

Sophie & Liam’s low-key budget geek chic wedding

These two know the value of a little leg work in getting a deal for a budget wedding. And when you’re trying to keep family, friends, and especially vegetarians fed and happy, it’s no mean feat. But thankfully, they found a restaurant willing to make a deal and crafted a small wedding with emphasis on being together and sharing in the day. It’s just one of those awesome weddings we are loving for simple weddings week.

Jenna & Trevor’s vegan tree-hugging wedding

When your mother’s blue dress looks amazing on you, you wear it come hell or high water. And that’s what Jenna did at her backyard, eco-friendly party. It’s simple weddings week, and this event was nothing if not two days of simply enjoying family, love, and homemade food on a budget.

Megan & Jay’s last-minute change solstice wedding

Sometimes you plan an intimate NOLA elopement, and sometimes life gets in the way. So when life prevented this couple from doing just that, they decided to plan an elegant hometown wedding with friends and family instead. And this beach-side family party with stone warming ceremony is just perfect for our Simple Weddings week.

Why the mason jar trend isn’t ruining the wedding industry

In the latest chapter of the on-going online discussion about hating trends and trashing wedding blogs, came this piece entitled, The Mason jar manifesto, wherein a photographer scolds couples, photographers, and wedding planners alike for putting effort into wedding details and trends like Mason jars and twinkly fairy lights. It’s been pretty well received by other photographers as well as wedding industry people, but I wasn’t a fan.

Maybe y’all will hate me and ride me out of the alternative wedding blogging biz on a rail when I say — details are the shit! Details make my day. Give me a great photo of some unexpected detail and I’m “dayum Ariel, did you check this out!? Let’s feature this asap.” You know why?

Jen & David’s laid-back Tennessee barbecue wedding

These two were not getting married — no way, no how. Except then they did, which made the whole shebang offbeat in itself. On top of that, they opted for a casual, outdoor ceremony with some kick-ass barbecue afterwards from the local joint they love. It was simple, small, and perfect for these two, who exemplify our simple weddings week.

Allison & Christopher’s simple sunflowery garden wedding

This couple opted for a simple, sweet morning ceremony and a casual brunch for a day full of flowers, bubbles, and lots of love. Summer, sunflowers, sun streaming through the trees… I’m bookmarking this wedding for dark winter days.
