The Offbeat Bride: Colleen, artist

Her Offbeat Partner: Justin, artist

Location & date of wedding: Nathaniel Bowditch Schooner, Rockland Harbor, Maine — August 2, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: We did it our way, we wanted something intimate and casual without being fussy or formal but still keeping it classy and personal. We decided in May to do it that summer, so it had to be planned in only a few months. Our prerogative was for it to be fun and inexpensive!

Her Offbeat Partner: Mikhail, Freelance Photographer

Location & date of wedding: St. Louis Renaissance Faire Park, St. Louis, MO — July 19, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: Our wedding cost us about $500 for about 60 people, but that's not all! We had our fairy tale dream wedding that really was like a fairy tale — complete with a couple fairies, some knights in shining… kimono, music from fantasy games and movies, a sermon about love in Klingon, costumed guests, a cake inspired by Lothlorien, food inspired by the Redwall books, and, of course, a big wooden pirate ship!

The offbeat bride: Teena, marketing coordinator and soon-to-be Etsy shop owner

My offbeat partner: Anthony, video editor extraordinaire

Location & date of wedding: San Francisco Bay — literally, we were on a boat

What made our wedding offbeat: Reflecting our approach to life, our wedding was simple, part handmade, part eco-friendly, part budget-conscious, and part compromise.

We wanted our wedding to be as handmade as our 5-month engagement would allow. I bought my handmade orange skirt on Etsy and built my own corset, using a strip of fabric from the skirt as trim.

The offbeat bride: Katie, Education
Her offbeat partner: Forrest, Video Games

Location & date of wedding: Aboard the Hawaiian Chieftain in Ilwaco, WA – May 14th, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: We knew we wanted it on a ship and we knew what we wanted to wear. I wanted to wear some kind of Victorian BBC/literary adaptation gown, and Forrest wanted to wear the grey suit from the film "Bram Stoker's Dracula".

The offbeat bride: Tanya, Nursery Teacher

Her offbeat partner: Gavin, Technical Officer

Location & date of wedding: HMS Warrior – Portsmouth, England on March 24th, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: We had been together for a while and decided to do the wedding thing our way. We wanted a small ceremony and we weren't tied to any religious buildings, so after a quick search we decided on a ship.
