Announcing the birth of our sister site: Offbeat Mama!

jackfm1.jpgI recently did an interview with Kimi Kline on Seattle's JACKfm 96.5, and we talked about wedding porn, the relativity of what "offbeat" means, bachelor party spelunking, and forgetting your vows. The conversation is now available as a podcast, so take a listen.

I have an interview airing Monday on Northwest Afternoon, a local afternoon talk show. The show is on between 3 and 4pm, and I'm not sure at what point my segment will air. Norah Vincent will be on the show too, however, so it's worth watching the whole thing.

The real question is, who can get the segment onto youtube first? A free book to the tivo geek who makes the magic happen!

Jen Moon & Scotto

The offbeat bride: Jen Moon, Project Manager (and Offbeat Bride lab rat!)

My offbeat groom: Scott O. Moore, Program Manager

Location & date of wedding: Capitol Hill Arts Center Showroom, Seattle, WA

What made our wedding offbeat: We wrote and produced Wedding! The Musical and had our friends star in it with us. Not only was there popcorn and commemorative posters sold pre-show along with a mime, during the "show" there was music, dancing, lip synching, a trapeze swing, skits to tell the story of our relationship, and eventually a ceremony complete with a ringleader, fire, and uh, missing rings. We also spent 3 months learning a choreographed swing dance and pretended to get in a huge fight in front of the 225 guests before sailing into said dance.

Phyllis & Josh

The offbeat bride: Phyllis Fletcher, radio journalist (and Offbeat Bride lab rat!)

Her offbeat groom: Josh Knisely

Location & date of wedding: A friend's backyard in Seattle, WA; September 2005

What made our wedding offbeat: We fed people before and after the ceremony — something that's not offbeat if you're Jewish! We aren't, but we like the tradition of food first. So we borrowed it. Otherwise, our wedding was offbeat mainly because of things we *didn't* do. No: aisle-walking, bridesmaids, wedding colors, printed program, ceremonial music, or poetry. No "now is when we dance" dancing; no assigned seating, cake-cutting, bouquet-tossing, party favors, or choreographed exit. What's left, then? Everything else you have at a party! With a short and heartfelt civil ceremony between the appetizers and the barbecue.
