Gamer weddingThe offbeat bride: karen, gamer

Her offbeat partner: PJ, video game journalist

Location & date of wedding: san francisco zoo, april 19, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: Hoo boy. The tender union between two child-at-heart game industry kids is, of course, *unnormal* to say the least. We’re both avid gamers who love animals. The venue really hit the nail on the wall. PJ proposed at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and how fitting it was to have the actual wedding at the San Francisco Zoo!?

The rings

Looking at this photo from Rachel & Ali’s recent Persian wedding in San Francisco made me drooly — look at that amazing spread of food in front of them! Om nom nom nom… Really, all the photos from their wedding are amazing — clearly, they had some talented guests! I’m especially fond of this one from their Chinatown stroll, and Rachel’s fab birdcage veil.

The offbeat bride: Leila Easa, teacher

My offbeat groom: Gavin Murphy, engineer

Location & date of wedding: On Nov 4 2006, The Mexican Bus took us to three San Francisco locations: Bernal Heights Park, Seward Street Playground, and the cave near the ruins of the Sutro Baths

But in the end, we had it our way: a bus adventure, three locations with symbolic meaning, a reception at home, very low costs, no wedding dress, tux or diamonds, etc.

the happy, bikey coupleI love the photos from Sarah and Preston’s San Francisco bike wedding. There’s lots of talk of eco-weddings these days, but it doesn’t get much more earth-friendly than this … the couple riding off into the sunset on their bikes. Plus, spandex makes for a lovely wedding fabric.

Strap on your helmet and check out the full set of bike wedding shots.

(Thanks to squishy for the photo!)

Stilt wedding
I love these photos of San Francisco couple Monica Tse and Mike Templeton Brady, who said “I Do” on stilts! Check out the full stilt-walker wedding photo series, and thanks to Amy for the link!

Greta & IngridThe offbeat bride: Greta Christina, Writer (and Offbeat Bride lab rat!)

The other offbeat bride: Ingrid, nurse practitioner

Location & date of wedding: November 12, 2005 in San Francisco’s Swedish American Hall in the Castro district

What made our wedding offbeat: 1. We encouraged all our guests to dress in festive/glamorous attire, including historical costumes. Boy howdy, did they take us up on it.
