The Offbeat Bride: Elka, editor and writer

Her Offbeat Partner: Peter, city attorney for Napa

Location & Date of wedding: We had the ceremony on my family's land, where my Aunt Kris tumbled over her pony's head when she was galloping him in the moonlight, and where I rode horses as a child and teenager. Our reception is two miles away at Seven Pines Lodge. Oh, this is northwestern rural Wisconsin! August 9th, 2008.

What made our wedding offbeat: There were a lot of things that made our wedding unique and memorable. It was very family and friend uniting. We wanted everyone to feel like they were in love, too, and that they were loved and appreciated. This was truly a community event!

Paul and I

After yesterday's post about cave weddings, I got so many emails asking for more information about Sabrina's cave wedding, that I figured I better post her profile right away!

The offbeat bride: Sabrina – Graphic Designer

Her offbeat partner: Paul – NASA Meteorologist/Computer Scientist

Location & date of wedding: Stephen's Gap Cave, Woodville, AL (basically in the boonies!) 5.1.08

What made our wedding offbeat: First off, I designed and we printed our own wedding invitations on my 1924 Chandler and Price letterpress (Paul did all the typesetting). We did all the decor ourselves: the decorations, the favors, the flowers, I designed the cake, etc.

Then our wedding was really a weekend's worth. May 1st (Thurs) Paul and I got married in a cave – Stephen's Gap Cave. Our entire wedding party hiked for 45 minutes with all of their fancy clothes (including a rented tux for Paul) slung over their backs and got changed in the cave. We had a fantastic ceremony, and then went out for pizza, and later went to the reception site to start decorating.

I'm trying to get caught up on my backlog of bride profiles — so this week it's wall-to-wall wedding porn for y'all. Enjoy!

My offbeat groom: Jon, Student/Retail

Location & date of wedding: Jon's Parent's HUGE yard in rural Manitoba, Canada. June 23, 2007

What made our wedding offbeat: Our wedding was unique in that we both wanted to save money (because we both feel the same way about overpriced wedding crap) and wanted to have an outdoor celebration that was not limited by who could join us. So we chose Jon's parents home as a location that would not limit our needs.
