Clashes of steel at this choose-your-own-adventure warrior wedding complete with a quest

As James and I met in martial arts, and one of our favorite things to do is go to Renaissance festivals, we decided to put a good third of our budget to awesome custom armor sets. We special-ordered swords. I made my own scabbard. We commissioned one of my favorite artists for custom illustration made into our tapestry.

We did our own simple decorations and set up. The ONE RULE for all attendees was that they had to come in some sort of costume (yes, even the officiant). The theme? "Choose your own adventure." We were not disappointed, and had an amazing time.

Live out all your corseted fantasies with a wedding at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival

Live out all your corseted fantasies with a wedding at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival

As a lifelong Ren Fest nut myself, I can’t stop ogling weddings that feature armor, weapons (peace-tied, natch!), dragons, corsets, and a whole royal court at the ready. It’s so immersive and whimsical and I get giddy just imagining what new Medieval and Renaissance-inspired weddings will come our way out of Scarborough. The best part? YOUR WEDDING CAN BE THERE, TOO!

Here’s what you can expect by booking an all-inclusive (and ultimate TBT!) wedding at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival…

A gorgeous wedding with influences of military travels

A fantasy-inspired wedding with influences of military travels

Brenna and Alexander had a gorgeous fantasy and Game of Thrones-inspired wedding with extra inspiration from their military travels, especially to China. The New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden was the background for their ceremony where Alexander recited a poem he’d wrote especially for Brenna.

You could see the influence of things they love: traveling adventures, Game of Thrones, the color purple, and their two dogs/ring bearers (in bow ties!).

Cheer “HUZZAH” for this Bristol Renaissance Faire wedding

Gretchen and Michael’s wedding was a full-on Renaissance affair. The ceremony took place over Labor Day weekend at the Cotswold Commons area of The Bristol Renaissance Faire. The officiant dressed as a monk, bridesmaids wore DIY faery wings and flower crowns, and all the groomsmen wore color-coordinated capes. The couple incorporated a Medieval wine ceremony into their wedding as a symbol of their lives uniting as one. If you’re a Ren Faire lover like I am, you’re in for a treat…

A Renaissance fantasy Christmas wedding (aka "A Lord of the Rings Christmas Special!")

A Renaissance fantasy Christmas wedding (aka “A Lord of the Rings Christmas Special!”)

When people asked about our wedding, we joked that the theme was, "Lord of the Rings Christmas Special." Shane is a huge Tolkein nerd, and we both love Renaissance faires and fantasy. Our wedding was in December, his favorite color is red, and mine is green, so throwing Christmas in just made sense. It came together beautifully.

Modern meets Renaissance at this New York wine cellar wedding

Modern meets Renaissance at this New York wine cellar wedding

Judith and Nick had a chic New York City wedding with Renaissance-inspired outfits, Jewish cultural traditions, and a wine cellar venue. There was a little DIY, a lot of help from family and friends, and now we have a ton of great advice from the couple. Let’s see what they had to say about their gorgeous New York wine cellar wedding…
