My offbeat groom: Benjamin White, Medical Laboratory Technologist Location & date of wedding: Opossum Creek Retreat Cabins, Lansing, West Virginia, October 2006 What made our wedding offbeat: We took tradition and tossed it far, far out the window. I wore a red dress that I bought off the rack (on sale!) at Macy’s and no veil. Each of us had both of our parents escort us down the aisle. I walked down the aisle not to some stiff traditional bridal march but instead to Death Cab for Cutie’s “I Will Follow You Into the Dark.” Read the rest of this entry » ![]() How do aerialists get married? If they’re Marina and James, members of the Los Angeles performance troupe The Clan Destino, they get married on a trapeze. Check out the gorgeous photos from this very offbeat wedding.
The offbeat bride: Jen Moon, Project Manager (and Offbeat Bride lab rat!) My offbeat groom: Scott O. Moore, Program Manager Location & date of wedding: Capitol Hill Arts Center Showroom, Seattle, WA What made our wedding offbeat: We wrote and produced Wedding! The Musical and had our friends star in it with us. Not only was there popcorn and commemorative posters sold pre-show along with a mime, during the “show” there was music, dancing, lip synching, a trapeze swing, skits to tell the story of our relationship, and eventually a ceremony complete with a ringleader, fire, and uh, missing rings. We also spent 3 months learning a choreographed swing dance and pretended to get in a huge fight in front of the 225 guests before sailing into said dance.
I was browsing around Flickr looking at quirky wedding photos tonight, I think this one is my favorite. I love Aussie Rebecca Mence’s outfit, from the tip of her top hat right down to the boots.
Although the wedding seems like it definitely was not a low-budget affair, there are some inspiring decorative and conceptual elements that are great for brainstormers. And I absolutely loved the Kammeo’s quote: “Entering my thirties, the idea of being a ‘little princess’ didn’t appeal to me as much as being ‘Queen’ for the day.” And omg, did she ever achieve it. Stunning! |
