Fun Offbeat Fact: Stasha's brother-in-law Dave Tusk's wedding was previously profiled on Offbeat Bride. I'm sure most all of you will remember Lucifire & Dave Tusks bright red circus wedding! As Stasha put it, "We're just one big freaky family!"

The Offbeat Bride: Stasha, Gal Friday

Her Offbeat Partner: Rob, Student

Location & date of wedding: City Center, Redwood City, California — July 23, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: We didn't stick with many traditions at all and, with the help and contributions of our friends, we did the entire thing for under $600 (and that includes our clothes)!

The Offbeat Bride: Gabrielle, Artist/Art Teacher

Her Offbeat Partner: Andres, London Underground worker

Location & date of wedding: Ceremony at Islington Town Hall London, Reception at The Mildmay Workingmen's Club London UK — 11th April 2009

What made our wedding offbeat: Our wedding was DIY not just out of necessity due to the small budget, but because we wanted the wedding to be a true reflection of us. Our wedding was a mix match or a miss match of everything we like from tattoos to tea parties.

Her Offbeat Partner: Lars

Location & date of wedding: Meridian Hills Country Club, Indianapolis, IN — June 2, 2007

What made our wedding offbeat: I tied in my favorite Grimm fairy tale "Snow White and Rose Red" into our Venetian Carnevale theme, to keep guests wondering what was coming next. I wanted to wear a gown for our entire wedding, but thought it might be too shocking for some of the older guests, as we had a church ceremony before the reception. So, I wore a white traditional gown for the ceremony, then changed into a red silk ballgown for the reception. Both gowns were by Demetrios Couture.

The Offbeat Bride: Stephanie, sustainability nerd

Her Offbeat Partner: Davyd, engineer

Location & date of wedding: BFF's parents' backyard, Caversham, Western Australia — April 5th, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: I'm a mostly- Australian, and Davyd's a somewhat-English Australian, and we're both vegans. We wanted our wedding to reflect who we are and where we came from (to be a fusion wedding, if you will), but also to be fun and memorable. We played cricket and croquet straight after-wards, and banned black and white colours from our guests whilst trying to get them to wear hats and fascinators. In the weeks before, all planning was referred to as prep for the 'really big party,' and that's what it was!

The Offbeat Bride: Shannon, theater actress/web site manager

My Offbeat Partner: Brandon, improv actor/managing director

Location & date of wedding: Lake Forest Park Civic Club on Lake Washington in Seattle, WA (we're not members, anyone can rent it) — 5/4/2008

What made our wedding offbeat: Our wedding was completely ours. We ran the thing ourselves and enlisted the generous help of talented friends and family to design our invites, print them, set-up, DJ, officiate, work the bar, and make appetizers.

We decided early on to eliminate certain expensive sources of stress to keep the budget and the stress as low as possible. We planned the wedding for about 4-5 months after the engagement to save ourselves a year of stress. Within a few weeks, we'd chosen an inexpensive (under $1K), little-heard-of venue north of Seattle. It's in a lovely spot on the lake but because the building is old 1960's utilitarian, so it's not used often for weddings. We decided the space was too small for a wedding party and we didn't want to deal with choosing dresses and tuxes and favors and coordinating the people (this ended up being our most controversial decision).

The Offbeat Bride: Jen, Artist/Library Aide

My Offbeat Partner: Doug, Artist/Museum Officer

Location & date of wedding: Lingrow Farm, Leechburg, PA — 3/22/2008

What made our wedding offbeat: I think one of the things that made us so "offbeat" was how laid-back we all managed to stay about everything! We'd been friends for twelve years and partners for seven when we got engaged, and up until that point I had never really envisioned what I wanted in a wedding.

When we sat down and talked about what we absolutely had to have, the list was actually pretty short: a red wedding dress, good vegetarian food, a venue with some character, and we end up married when it's all over. Once we established that, it was pretty easy to compromise on the rest of the stuff and let go of what wasn't really important.
