The Offbeat Bride: Sarah, hairdresser

My Offbeat Partner: Richard, material handler, contractor

Location & date of wedding: Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, on my Parent's farm — July 12, 2008

What made our wedding offbeat: There are a few obvious reasons why my wedding would be considered "offbeat." My dress was purple, my hair was red, he didn't wear a tux, my MOH's title was "zilla", it was outside on a farm, dress code was tropical, etc.

I considered it offbeat because everyone had a job. Anyone with a specific job had creative input. For example, my sister was a photographer and I let her do her own thing. With the florist we just discussed colours and themes and left the rest up to her. I never knew what the bouquet would look like until the day of the wedding. I didn't even know what my dress looked like until the week before.

I just chose people I trusted and left it up to them.

When I saw this photo pop up in the Offbeat Bride photo pool, I thought to myself HEY WAIT A MINUTE!

That gorgeous wedding dress? I KNOW THAT DRESS! I'VE WORN THAT DRESS! It's called the Druid Dress and it's made by a UK clubwear company called Alienskin Clothing. It's 100% cotton and stretchy and suuuper comfortable and comes with these amazing arm-warmers and overlock stitched detailing and it's completely cyber/raver clubwear and yet OH MY GOD it makes a stunning wedding dress. And I guarantee you, that's the most comfortable woman ever featured on Offbeat Bride. No corsets, no boning, no lacing up or scratchy crinoline. Just stretchy cotton and a little bit of fairy magic. It's also the first hooded wedding dress I've ever seen. I'm in love! If you love it as much as I do, check out Alienskin's other truly offbeat bridal wear.

A few weeks ago, I put the call out for a new intern to help me keep the Offbeat Empire running smoothly. I was flooded with applications from people who are all so awesome that I wanted to have them all over for drinks, but ultimately I could only pick one … and so I picked Megan. Those of you on the OBT may know her, but I figured the best way to introduce her to the rest of the world was with … well, her bride profile!

The offbeat bride: Megan, photographer

Her offbeat partner: Aaron, sound engineer

Location & date of wedding: Keawakapu Beach, Maui, HI – 10/10/08

What made our wedding offbeat: Well, it all started because of a shark attack. We got engaged after Aaron was almost eaten!

We decided to celebrate the "attackiversary" by getting married on the same island where Aaron was almost killed a year later. Our wedding became more of a 3-day long celebration of life than a wedding.
