We are a queer interfaith clergy couple. Our wedding party consisted of a spiritual and supportive “Femme Crew” and “Butch Crew.” We call ourselves TEAM UNICORN because we love rainbows and sparkles and magic and don’t subscribe to socially constructed ideas of gender. We celebrated our wedding at a stunning camp site in North Georgia all weekend with a Shabbat prayer service, a 12-step recovery meeting, swimming and boating options, hikes to waterfalls, a bonfire, and yoga on the dock.

Sara and David live in New York City, but chose to get married at the Concord Country Club where David’s mom got married a few years earlier. They had loved it and trusted them to handle an amazing wedding. They really wanted a small celebration surrounded by nature. Sara, a genderqueer bride, made that stylish leather jacket, and chose to play with other wedding traditions by wearing gold glitter Doc Martens for that something new, and Van Gogh’s Starry Night socks for the something blue.

On their ninth anniversary, Neish and Tish tied the knot exactly as they wanted to: in a low-key queer-love celebration, full of color and easy-going Caribbean vibes. We had a travel theme! We both loved to travel before we met and have loved traveling together. The invitations were train tickets (all aboard!) and the table assignments were a country scavenger hunt of the places we’ve been or want to go together (know your geography)! As an officiant myself, I always encourage couples to decide what traditions work for them. One of the great things about a queer wedding is that you have to do that work. There's no traditional order or distinct bride/groom roles, so we got to figure everything out, from who proposed to whom (first) to who danced with whose parents at the reception. It was amazing.

From our initial planning, we had two big goals: a FUN wedding that demonstrated that LOVE is Love. We're from the Midwest and queer weddings are not the norm for our families, but we knew we wanted to plan an experience that was memorable and also helped normalize the beauty of all love.
