What made our wedding offbeat: We had two wedding ceremonies, one in the peak of summer in our home town of Perth, Australia — which we called our "Unlawful Union" as gay marriage is not recognised over here — and one a few days later in Canada.

While we see a decent number of lesbian brides in hot butchy suits, I very rarely see het brides in bridal pantsuits.

…But all that changes today!

Emily totally rocked her flowy pantsuit at her August wedding. Her wedding photos should completely shatter any final misconceptions that bridal pantsuits can't be just as floaty and femmey and positively gorgeous as a wedding gown.

I'm hoping to see more het brides rocking pansuits someday … I've even put a bug in Chrissy Wai-Ching's ear that she should totally make a Wai-Ching version of this long-discontinued bridal pantsuit. (Who wants to be the first to commission it?)

A few weeks ago I got some great feedback in the form of a book review over on Amazon:

I think it's a little funny that the chapter on bridal wear in Offbeat Bride does not even mention the possibility of the bride wearing – gasp – pants instead of a dress. Utilikilts get a mention — "Match your skirts!" — but even then does it not enter the picture that some brides are not into dresses.

Why, what an excellent point, and what a total oversight. While of course I couldn't cover every single breed of offbeat in the book (snowboard brides got short shrift, and transgendered Buddhists were completely ignored), writing about brides in pants is actually something I really wish I'd included.

In my poking around online I found a fair amount of inspiration for brides who wish to go the pants route, and even some awesome indie vendors…
